Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Mulberry

The Census Bureau estimated Mulberry's population at 4,573 on July 1, 2025, up from a 2020 base of 3,944, inside a Polk County that reached 874,790. The American Community Survey (ACS 2020–2024) adds the detail that matters for home care: 35.7% of residents are 65 or older (margin ±10.1 points), against 19.5% countywide and 21.3% statewide, and the median age is 51.4. A 65-plus resident lives in 55.8% of Mulberry households, and 40.4% of older residents report a disability. The survey sample for a city this size is small, so treat these as estimates with wide margins, not counts.

Housing shapes the work too. The same survey counts 42.2% of Mulberry's homes as mobile homes (±11.5 points), and owners occupy 79.2% of the homes that are lived in. Expect to help people who are staying put in a home they own rather than moving to a facility. Only 3.3% of households have no vehicle, so many clients still drive or have a relative who does, but appointments and errands are a common part of the job. On your profile, say whether you have your own car, your available days and shift times, and any Spanish you speak (9.9% of residents speak it at home). Types of caregiver jobs in Mulberry

Mulberry families who hire privately usually want help that keeps an older relative at home: a few morning hours for bathing, dressing and breakfast, afternoon company and light housekeeping, rides to the doctor, or an overnight stay after a hospital discharge. Care you have already given a parent or grandparent counts as experience. Write down what you did, how often, and for how long.

Caregiver pay in Mulberry: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Lakeland–Winter Haven, FL metro (Polk County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer. The Florida minimum wage is $15.00 an hour (effective September 30, 2026); the federal minimum of $7.25 and federal overtime rules apply to directly employed caregivers unless the work is exempt companionship under the FLSA. BLS does not publish wages for Mulberry alone; it places all of Polk County in the Lakeland–Winter Haven metro area. There, the May 2025 survey put the aide median at $16.14 an hour, with the lowest-paid tenth at $14.21 or less and the top tenth at $17.35 or more, a narrow spread. Florida's minimum wage was $14.00 when that survey was taken and rose to $15.00 on September 30, 2026, so the bottom of that range is now below the legal floor. For nursing assistants the metro median was $17.31. Agree on your hourly rate, mileage and overtime in writing before the first shift.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in Florida, applied to Mulberry

Florida's constitution set the minimum wage at $15.00 an hour from September 30, 2026; from 2027 the state recalculates it each September for inflation, with the new rate taking effect the following January 1. Federal rules also apply: since January 1, 2015, most direct care workers have been owed the federal minimum wage and overtime, agencies cannot claim the companionship or live-in exemptions, and a worker who lives in the client's household is exempt from overtime only. A Labor Department proposal published in July 2025 would restore the 1975 version of these rules; confirm which rules are in force before you rely on an exemption. Florida's Agency for Health Care Administration (AHCA) says anyone who provides homemaker or companion services must register with it, even one person working alone, for $50.75 every two years. That registration does not cover hands-on personal care such as bathing or feeding. To report suspected abuse of a vulnerable adult, call the Florida Abuse Hotline at 1-800-962-2873.

Questions

Caregiver jobs in Mulberry: frequently asked questions

How much must a Mulberry caregiver be paid at minimum?

$15.00 an hour since September 30, 2026, under Article X, Section 24 of the Florida Constitution. Mulberry has no separate rate. From 2027 the state adjusts the figure each year for inflation, effective every January 1.

Can Florida Medicaid pay me to care for a relative in Mulberry?

Possibly, through the Statewide Medicaid Managed Care Long-Term Care program. It covers people 65 or older who qualify for Medicaid, or adults 18 and over who qualify because of a disability, once the state's CARES assessment finds they need a nursing home level of care. Under the participant directed option, an enrollee who lives in their own home or a family member's home can direct services such as personal care, homemaker and companion care, which means hiring, training and scheduling their own workers. The plan, not the family, sets the pay rate.

How does a Mulberry family apply for Medicaid long-term care at home?

AHCA tells families to start by calling their Aging and Disability Resource Center for a screening. For Polk County that is Senior Connection Center, reached through the Elder Helpline at 1-800-963-5337. Depending on the screening score, the person may be placed on a waitlist, and the Department of Children and Families decides financial eligibility.

What do aides earn near Mulberry?

In the Lakeland–Winter Haven metro, which BLS defines as Polk County, the hourly median that BLS reported for May 2025 was $16.14 for home health and personal care aides, slightly below the Florida median of $16.25. Metro nursing assistants were paid a $17.31 median.

Do I need to register with the state to do companion care?

AHCA's guidance says any individual or organization that provides homemaker or companion services must register, including someone who works alone without staff; the fee is $50.75 for two years. The registration does not allow hands-on personal care. Ask AHCA how the rule applies to your situation before you start.

Which Polk County schools offer nursing assistant training?

Traviss Technical College, part of Polk County Public Schools, runs a 165-hour Nursing Assistant program approved by the Florida Board of Nursing; call 863-499-2700. Florida also lets candidates with a high school diploma, or who are at least 18, take the CNA exam without completing a program.
