How to find an in-home caregiver in Cody

The Census Bureau estimated that 10,377 people lived in the city of Cody on July 1, 2025, about a third of Park County's 31,171. Five-year survey figures for 2020–2024 show a population that leans older: the median age is 42.3, and 2,088 residents (20.3%, margin ±2.5 points) are 65 or older, 299 of them 85-plus. Of Cody's 4,774 households, 1,469 (30.8%) include a resident aged 65-plus, and 769 are a single older person living alone, 492 women and 277 men. Just over a third of residents past 65 (34.6%, ±7.6) report a disability. Only 124 households (2.6%) have no vehicle, so rides tend to become the problem only once a parent has to stop driving.

The caregivers shown at the top are sorted by distance and the list grows as people register, so it can include people who live outside Cody itself. When you write your post, name your part of town, the hours you need covered and the actual tasks, such as a shower, lunch with medication reminders, a ride to Cody Regional Health or a night shift after a hospital stay. If you are also looking a little further out, the Powell page covers that city, about 22 straight-line miles away.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Cody

CaregiverConnect does not screen, license or reference-check anyone, so your family does that work. If a candidate says they are a certified nursing assistant, look the name up yourself with the Verify a CNA tool on the Wyoming State Board of Nursing site; the board does not issue paper licenses, so a card in someone's wallet is not proof. Get the names of two past clients or employers and phone them. Interview in your relative's own house with them present, and notice whether the candidate speaks to them or only about them. Then book a handful of paid trial shifts before you commit.

Questions families here ask at interview

  • After a patient leaves Cody Regional Health or finishes short rehab at its Long Term Care Center, what does your first week with them usually look like?
  • For Dad's medical visits, would you drive him yourself at an agreed mileage rate, or should we use the senior center van?
  • Is your CNA certification current, and may I look your name up with the Board of Nursing's Verify a CNA tool?
  • When a home health nurse or hospice staff also visit, how do you keep each other informed?
  • Should Mom qualify for the Community Choices Waiver, could you sign on as her participant-directed worker and go through the state screenings?
Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Cody: hourly rates and schedules

Decide first how much time you need covered. One pattern is two or three weekday mornings for bathing, dressing and breakfast, sometimes with an afternoon for groceries and the pharmacy. Because the Cody Senior Center serves a weekday lunch (and one every third Sunday), a caregiver's paid hours can go to personal care rather than cooking. Families who need evenings or overnights after a discharge often split them between a private caregiver and relatives, with a respite stay at the Long Term Care Center as a fallback.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are the employer. The Federal (Wyoming state rate is $5.15) minimum wage is $7.25 an hour (effective July 24, 2009); the federal minimum of $7.25 and federal overtime rules apply to directly employed caregivers unless the work is exempt companionship under the FLSA. Source: US Department of Labor, direct care workers; the state source is listed at the end of this page.

For wage statistics, BLS does not treat Cody as its own market: Park County is one of ten counties in its Western Wyoming nonmetropolitan area. There, the May 2025 midpoint for aides (BLS groups home health with personal care) was $15.07 an hour, the lowest-paid tenth $13.32 or less and the top tenth $28.15 or more. Wyoming's aide median was $15.96, and nursing assistants in the same nonmetro area had a median of $19.95. In CareScout's 2025 survey, Wyoming agencies charged a median $46 hourly for non-medical home care, compared with $35 for the nation. On the legal floor, the state's own minimum is $5.15, and the U.S. Department of Labor's state table adds that employers covered by the federal law must pay $7.25.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

Safety

Hiring safely in Cody

Before the first shift, put the rate, days, duties, mileage terms and notice period on paper, both of you signing. Track hours on a weekly sheet and lock up prescriptions and cash. Congress brought household domestic service under the FLSA in 1974, with two exceptions: a companionship worker is outside both the minimum wage and overtime rules, while someone who lives in loses only overtime protection. A July 2, 2025 DOL rulemaking notice would bring back the 1975 version of those rules, so look at the agency's direct care page for where that stands. IRS Topic 756 says that once 2026 cash wages to a single household worker reach $3,000, Social Security and Medicare tax generally must be withheld. Wyoming law obliges anyone with reason to suspect abuse, neglect or exploitation of a vulnerable person to make a report; in Cody that call goes to the Department of Family Services on (307) 587-6246. Questions

Hiring a caregiver in Cody: frequently asked questions

Can a family member in Cody be paid to provide care?

Sometimes, if your relative qualifies for the Community Choices Waiver and chooses participant direction. The participant may employ anyone older than 18 who clears the required background screenings, an adult child included. A spouse can be hired only in limited cases, when the participant is the employer and the spouse is not legally authorized to make financial decisions for them. ACES$, the state's financial management service, runs payroll.

Where should I start if my parent in Cody needs more help?

Call the Cody Senior Center at (307) 587-6221 for meals, rides and borrowed equipment, and Wyoming Senior Citizens, Inc. in Cody at (307) 578-8285 about Wyoming Home Services. If Medicaid may be possible, the state HCBS line, (800) 510-0280, explains the waiver steps.

Can the senior center van take my mother to appointments outside town?

Within limits. The van runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and goes up to 10 miles beyond Cody city limits; it needs 24 hours' notice and can carry wheelchair users. Trips farther away, or outside those hours, usually fall to family or a private caregiver who drives, so put the mileage rate in your agreement.

Is there short-term help so the family caregiver can rest?

Yes, from more than one place. Cody Regional Health's Long Term Care Center takes respite stays of a few days to a couple of weeks, Wyoming Home Services lists respite and adult day care among its services, and the National Family Caregiver Support Program, run in Park County by Wyoming Senior Citizens, Inc., is open to adult caregivers of anyone 60 or over and of people with Alzheimer's or a related dementia at any age.

Does anyone in Cody bring nursing care to the house?

Yes. Cody Regional Health's Home Health and Hospice service, (307) 578-2413, sends nurses plus physical and occupational therapists to patients at home. A private caregiver then covers the daily help between those visits.
