How to find an in-home caregiver in Wickenburg
Wickenburg is a Maricopa County town with an unusually old population. By the Census Bureau's estimate 8,305 people lived there in mid-2025, against 7,514 in the April 2020 base count. The ACS 2020–2024 five-year estimates give a median age of 65.2: half the town (51.2%, or 4,130 people) is 65 or older, including 1,267 people aged 75 to 84 and 541 aged 85 and over. Two households in three (67.4%) include someone over 64, and in 1,130 homes a resident of that age lives alone (705 women, 425 men). Among residents 65 and up, 28.4% report a disability. Margins are wide in a town this size (±5.9 points on the 65-plus share).
Your posting sets the terms: what needs doing (dressing, meals, a shower, medication reminders, errands, company), on which days, and what you will pay per hour. The cards above put the caregivers closest to Wickenburg first and update as new people sign up. Two Yavapai County communities to the north are covered too: Congress, about 17 straight-line miles from the ZIP centres this page uses, and Yarnell, about 22 miles. Wickenburg Community Hospital says its service area reaches north to Congress, Yarnell, Peeples Valley and Skull Valley, south to Wittmann and west to Aguila, Wenden and Salome, so try a 25-mile radius if your parent lives up the road.
Public help exists too. ALTCS, Arizona's Medicaid long-term care program, can pay for attendant care at home, and a relative can be the paid worker; see the ALTCS family caregiver guide. For anyone 60 or older, the county Area Agency on Aging (Region One for Maricopa, NACOG Aging for Yavapai) handles in-home help, respite and meals.

Evaluating caregivers in Wickenburg
Hiring privately leaves the screening to you, and Arizona offers one free public tool. The Department of Economic Security publishes an Adult Protective Services Registry listing people whom APS found to have abused, neglected or exploited a vulnerable adult. Anyone may search it; each entry gives a name, birth date and what was alleged, and names added since July 3, 2015 stay on for 25 years. DES advises confirming any match against ID and work history, since names and birth dates repeat.
Home health agencies are required to check that registry. AHCCCS also makes the agencies employing ALTCS direct care workers check criminal records nationwide when they hire and again every three years, and search the APS and DCS registries yearly. For everyone else, get signed consent for a consumer-reporting background check, phone two former employers, and interview at home with Mom or Dad in the room. A short paid trial comes next. Nobody at CaregiverConnect vets members.
Questions families here ask at interview
- May I look you up on the Arizona APS Registry, and will you show me photo ID in case your name matches someone else's?
- Could you work at a house in Congress or Yarnell as well as in Wickenburg, and is there a charge for the extra miles?
- Could you drive my father to clinic visits in Congress or to QWickCare, or book him a Freedom Express ride on your days off?
- Have you been a direct care worker for an ALTCS agency, and would you stay on for our private hours if my mother is approved later?
- Mom lives alone. Suppose you knock at the start of a shift and she does not answer: talk me through your next steps.
- What is your hourly rate for company, meals and errands, and how much more for bathing, a night shift or a Sunday?
What in-home care costs in Wickenburg: hourly rates and schedules
Where so many households are made up of older people, the schedules worth posting are short and regular: a morning call of two to three hours (wash, dress, breakfast, pills); a midday slot that could include a drive to the senior center lunch on West Wickenburg Way; clinic days, when the caregiver drives and waits; and nights, so a spouse can sleep. While an ALTCS decision is pending, private hours can fill the gap; AHCCCS policy says a member whose spouse is the paid caregiver can still get other covered home services.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are the employer. Arizona's minimum wage ($15.15 an hour in 2026) is the legal floor, and federal overtime rules apply to directly employed caregivers unless the work is exempt companionship under the FLSA. Sources: Industrial Commission of Arizona; US Department of Labor, direct care workers.
BLS places Maricopa County, and so Wickenburg, in the Phoenix-Mesa-Chandler metro area. The median for its 57,940 home health and personal care aides was $17.75 an hour in May 2025, against $17.51 statewide; nursing assistants there had a median of $21.77. Yavapai County forms the Prescott Valley-Prescott area, where the aide median was $17.23, a marker for Congress and Yarnell. Arizona's minimum wage is $15.15 in 2026 and rises each January 1 with consumer prices; the state law's definition of employee excludes a person employed by their own parent or sibling. CareScout's survey (July to November 2025) put the Arizona agency median for a non-medical caregiver at $38 an hour.
A family paying a caregiver directly is a household employer. Per the IRS, once cash wages to a single household employee reach $3,000 in 2026, Social Security and Medicare tax generally apply and Schedule H is filed with your return.
No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

Write the deal down and both sign it: hours, rate and payday, the personal care involved, who holds grocery and pharmacy money, and how far-off relatives get updates. Keep cash, cards and spare keys locked up and set your bank to send alerts. Report suspected mistreatment of your parent to Arizona APS, 1-877-767-2385.
Domestic service employees in private households came under the federal Fair Labor Standards Act in 1974, the Department of Labor notes. Companionship workers can be exempt from both pay rules; a live-in worker can be exempt from overtime, not from the wage floor. DOL proposed changing these rules on July 2, 2025, so check its current page first. Our hiring guide covers the paperwork.

Hiring a caregiver in Wickenburg: frequently asked questions
Could I or my brother get paid for caring for Dad in Wickenburg?
Through ALTCS, if he qualifies. AHCCCS policy names the relatives who may be paid: spouse, adult children and stepchildren, children-in-law, grandchildren, siblings, parents, grandparents and in-laws. Paid spouse hours top out at 40 per seven days, counting every worker. Under Self-Directed Attendant Care the member is the employer and the required paperwork goes to a Fiscal and Employer Agent; spouses cannot be paid through that option.
My mother lives in Congress. Which agency do I call?
Congress and Yarnell are in Yavapai County, so call NACOG Aging, 1-877-521-3500. Wickenburg itself is Region One, 602-264-4357. ALTCS and APS cover the whole state, and the Wickenburg hospital runs a clinic in Congress.
Is there a ride service for older people in Wickenburg?
Yes, within town: the AllThrive 365 Freedom Express goes door to door to appointments, stores and friends' homes between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Book on (928) 684-7894. Outside town, ask for a caregiver who drives.
Does anyone check caregivers before I hire one?
CaregiverConnect does not. You can search the Arizona APS Registry free, and ALTCS agencies must run criminal and registry checks on their workers. For a private hire, get consent for a background check and call references.
What should I budget for in-home care?
Each caregiver lists a rate. For comparison: Arizona's $15.15 minimum wage, the $17.75 Phoenix-area aide median (BLS) and CareScout's $38 Arizona agency median. Ask each one what changes for personal care, nights and weekends.
