Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Red Bluff

The city dates itself to 1876, and the county describes it as sitting on Interstate 5 and the Sacramento River about 135 road miles north of Sacramento. State demographers estimated 14,422 residents on January 1, 2026, a little over a fifth of the county. Nearly everything a caregiver deals with is here: the Social Services building on South Main Street where IHSS and the Public Authority work, St. Elizabeth Community Hospital, both of the county's skilled nursing facilities, and the Shasta College campus.

Red Bluff households are more likely to rent and to live on tight budgets than the county as a whole. ACS 2020–2024 shows 57.2% of occupied homes rented, a median household income of $51,529 and 18.8% of people below the poverty line. A good Red Bluff profile names the neighborhoods you can reach, states whether you have a car for hospital and clinic runs, and lists any CPR, first aid or nurse assistant training you hold.

Types of caregiver jobs in Red Bluff

Expect three kinds of work. Private families post for daily living help, meals and companionship, often for a parent living alone. IHSS recipients pick their own providers, paid for county-approved hours. Facility jobs exist too: two nursing homes, six licensed residential care homes for the elderly and one licensed home care organization have Red Bluff addresses in state records. If you have no experience, start with companionship and errands while you work toward a nurse assistant certificate.

Caregiver pay in Red Bluff: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the North Valley-Northern Mountains Region of California nonmetropolitan area (includes Tehama County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

About 7.5% of Red Bluff's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates. That is higher than the county's 6.1% and California's 5.3%. In a city where service occupations already employ 26.3% of working residents, caregiving offers year-round hours, and becoming a paid provider through IHSS in Tehama County, at $18.40 an hour since July 1, 2026, lets you be paid for care you may already give a relative. UC Berkeley's ordinance inventory lists no Red Bluff minimum wage, so private families pay at least California's $16.90, with overtime after nine hours a day. Nursing assistants in BLS's nonmetro area, which takes in Tehama County, earned a $22.66 median in May 2025, against a $16.50 aide median.

How to enroll as a provider in Tehama County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Tehama County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

Nursing home and hospital aide jobs at Red Bluff Health Care Center, Shasta View Care Center or St. Elizabeth generally require a CDPH nurse assistant certificate. Paid caregivers are legally bound to report suspected elder abuse; county APS takes calls on (530) 527-1911. See also the California requirements guide.
