Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Tehama County

The county describes itself as roughly 3,000 square miles, mostly open space, with development concentrated in the central valley floor. Its economy, by the county's own account, rests on ranching, farming and timber. Red Bluff is the county seat. The Department of Finance counted 64,764 residents on January 1, 2026: 14,422 in Red Bluff, 8,179 in Corning, 423 in the small city of Tehama, and 41,740, close to two in three, outside any city.

That spread decides how you look for work here. Most clients live outside the two main cities, and the census finds 76.6% of the county's workers driving alone to their jobs, with public transit at 0.1%. A profile that lists every community you will drive to, and the hours you can cover, does more than one that names Red Bluff alone. Spanish is spoken at home by 19.8% of residents over four, so add it to your profile if you have it.

Types of caregiver jobs

Types of caregiver jobs in Tehama County

Private requests here are mostly for help at home: meals, bathing, housework, medication reminders and rides to appointments in Red Bluff. IHSS providers do the same kind of work for clients the county has assessed, often a parent or neighbor. If you are new, offer companionship, errands and meal preparation first, and add personal care once you have training.

  • Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers.
  • Companion care: company, errands, appointments, light help.
  • Dementia care: routine-based support for memory loss.
  • Respite care: cover so a family caregiver can rest or work.
  • Live-in: room and board as part of the arrangement.
  • Overnight: supervision through the night.
  • Part-time and full-time: set by day and time block on your profile.
Pay

Caregiver pay in Tehama County: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the North Valley-Northern Mountains Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Tehama and nine other counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

Home health and personal care aides, North Valley-Northern Mountains Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Tehama and nine other counties)$16.50 median ($17.00 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 5,000 jobs; concentration 1.73× national
IHSS provider wage, Tehama County$18.40CDSS; effective July 1, 2026

Nursing assistants, North Valley-Northern Mountains Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Tehama and nine other counties)$22.66 medianBLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison)

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

There is no BLS wage table for Tehama County by itself. BLS counts it in a ten-county nonmetropolitan area with Colusa, Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Plumas, Sierra, Siskiyou and Trinity, where BLS counted 5,000 aides in May 2025, paid a $16.50 median ($17.00 mean); nursing assistants there had a $22.66 median. Tehama County IHSS providers earn $18.40 an hour from July 1, 2026, $1.50 above the $16.90 state minimum. UC Berkeley's inventory lists no local minimum wage anywhere in the county, so private jobs start at $16.90, and a household employing you itself must add overtime past nine hours daily or 45 weekly.

About 6.1% of Tehama County's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates, compared with 5.3% statewide. Within the county the figures differ: 7.5% for Red Bluff and 2.9% for Corning over the same months. Caregiving keeps going through every season of the farm year, which is why being paid to look after a parent or neighbor via IHSS in Tehama County matters to many households here.

How to enroll as a provider in Tehama County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Tehama County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Tehama County

Caring for a private family in Tehama County needs no state license for non-medical help. Registration as a home care aide is required only after a licensed agency hires you. The Department of Social Services runs IHSS from 310 South Main Street in Red Bluff, open weekdays 8 to 5; call (530) 527-1911 and press 5 for IHSS, including provider enrollment and timesheets. The IHSS Public Authority shares that address and takes new-provider calls on (530) 527-2466. Its steps: open an account on the online enrollment site, view the mandatory videos, sign the SOC 426 and SOC 846 electronically, book and attend an in-person orientation bringing a government photo ID whose name matches your Social Security card (originals only), then pay for a Live Scan fingerprint check with the Department of Justice. Skilled nursing jobs need CDPH nurse assistant certification. Elder abuse must be reported by anyone paid to give care. For the full picture, read our California caregiver requirements.

Dignity Health says St. Elizabeth is the only hospital in the county. How do Tehama County families find me?

Families post on the Tehama County family page or the Red Bluff and Corning pages, and their requests appear above. Profiles and applications are free, and your earnings are never cut by a commission.
