How to find an in-home caregiver in Georgetown

Georgetown, a census-designated place with an estimated 2,403 residents (ACS 2020–2024, ±600), answers to El Dorado County rather than a city council. The population skews old: the median resident is 63.8 years old, and in roughly 467 of its 1,126 households the only occupant is someone 65-plus. Searching the state files for 95634 turns up no elderly care home, no home health agency and no licensed home care organization, so for regular help at home most families here hire a caregiver directly, use IHSS, or combine the two.

With so few working-age residents, whoever responds may live elsewhere in the county and drive in. Spell out the hours, the tasks, whether a car is needed for errands, and anything a driver should know about reaching the house. Spanish is spoken at home by 6.3% of residents five and older (ACS); mention it if your parent prefers it. Profiles at the top of this page are ordered by distance from 95634 and refresh whenever someone new registers.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Georgetown

Ask for proof of whatever an applicant claims. El Dorado County IHSS providers have passed a Live Scan check and the state orientation through the county Public Authority, which also screens and trains the caregivers on its registry. Certified nursing assistants can be looked up with CDPH, and an aide who works through a licensed agency will have a Home Care Aide Registry number you can look up. Check two references by phone, meet the strongest candidates in the Georgetown home, then pay for a first shift while you stay in the house. We do not screen or vouch for anyone who lists on CaregiverConnect. Families who want a criminal-history report must arrange and pay for it, with the candidate's signed permission.

Questions families here ask at interview

  • Which community would you commute from, and roughly how many minutes is the drive to us?
  • My father is 86 and lives alone; how would you check on him if you could only come three days a week?
  • Have you cared for someone with a disability that affects walking, and how do you help with transfers?
  • Could you drive my mother to the Divide Wellness Center on Highway 193 and wait for her?
  • Would you join her at the weekday lunch at the library on Orleans Street?
  • If Mom is approved for IHSS, are you enrolled with El Dorado County already, or prepared to go through enrollment?
  • What would you do if the power or phone line went out while you were with him?
Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Georgetown: hourly rates and schedules

Common requests from Georgetown households: a few hours on two or three weekdays for bathing, housework and errands; a midday visit so a parent who lives alone eats a proper meal; a weekly drive to appointments and shopping; and longer shifts in the weeks after a hospital discharge. Because a caregiver may be driving some distance, many families find fewer, longer visits easier to fill than daily short ones.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Rates are up to each caregiver, and four reference points help. The floor is California's $16.90, since no El Dorado County entry appears in the Labor Center's local wage inventory. BLS put the middle wage for personal care and home health aides across the Sacramento metro at $16.50 in May 2025. IHSS pays $17.40 in this county, and $40 an hour is the CareScout 2025 California median for agency care. Offer something for drive time if the caregiver comes a long way. California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights also applies: a personal attendant you employ earns 1.5 times the hourly rate for work beyond nine hours in one day or beyond 45 hours in one week. A parent on Medi-Cal who is over 65 or disabled could have part of the care paid through IHSS.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

Questions

Hiring a caregiver in Georgetown: frequently asked questions

Are there licensed care homes in 95634?

The CDSS licensing file lists none at a 95634 address. A family that wants a licensed residential setting would have to look outside the ZIP; for care at home, a private caregiver, IHSS or both are the options.

Does Georgetown have a senior center?

The county list of senior centers covers Placerville and South Lake Tahoe, not Georgetown. What Georgetown does have is the weekday senior lunch at the library on Orleans Street, which needs a reservation the week before.

My mother lives alone in Georgetown. What help is free?

She can sign up for YANA daily safety calls on (530) 621-6150 and, if she is 60 or older, reserve the library lunch or ask whether she qualifies for home-delivered meals. With Medi-Cal, she may also qualify for IHSS hours, and the county office can tell you how to apply.

Can IHSS pay me, as a son or daughter, to care for Mom or Dad in Georgetown?

Yes, through IHSS, if the parent is approved. The parent names the relative as provider, who then enrolls through the El Dorado County IHSS Public Authority. The county pays $17.40 an hour.

Is posting on CaregiverConnect free?

Posting a Georgetown request and reading replies is free. Messaging applicants and confirming a hire take Family Premium, at $24.99 per month. Caregivers keep their full pay.
