How to find an in-home caregiver in Weaverville

About 4,018 people live in Weaverville (ACS 2020–2024, plus or minus 684), an unincorporated community that the Census Bureau treats as a census-designated place. Trinity County's care services are concentrated here. That helps when you hire. A caregiver who already drives to Easter Avenue for clinic visits or to the county building on Industrial Parkway is not adding a long trip to look after your parent. Expect most applicants to be independent caregivers or IHSS providers who live in or near town; the state licensing file lists no licensed home care agency anywhere in the county.

The town skews older than Trinity County as a whole (30.2% aged 65 or over). Roughly 1,478 residents, or 36.8%, are 65 and up in ACS 2020–2024, the median age is 55.3, and some 320 households are a single older person. Spanish is spoken at home by 11.3% of residents, nearly all of whom are also fluent in English; if your parent needs Spanish, say so in the post. Profiles closest to 96093 are listed first above.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Weaverville

Ask each applicant which credential they hold and confirm it. Trinity County's IHSS office is in Weaverville, so a local provider should be able to tell you when they finished orientation and signed the provider agreement. Any certified nursing assistant, including someone from the Trinity Hospital nursing unit, holds a CDPH certificate; ask for the number. Talk to two people who have employed the applicant, and make the first paid shift one where a relative is home too. CaregiverConnect does no checking of applicants, so a background report has to come from your family, signed off by the caregiver.

Questions families here ask at interview

  • Do you live in Weaverville, and could you get here quickly if my mother needed you?
  • What did your last Trinity Hospital or nursing-unit discharge client need from you in the first week?
  • Besides any IHSS hours, could you take on private shifts for us?
  • Will you drive Dad to the Trinity Community Health Clinic or WeCARE and stay through the visit?
  • Would you pick up his meal from the Main Street site on Tuesdays and Thursdays?
  • Mom sometimes says no to her pills or a shower. What would you try?
  • Are you comfortable riding Trinity Transit with my mother when she goes to Redding?
Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Weaverville: hourly rates and schedules

Daily visits. In town, short visits work: a morning call for washing, dressing and medications, and a late-afternoon call for supper. Respite. A spouse who carries most of the care may need a four- to six-hour block two or three times a week. After a stay at Trinity Hospital. Plan on longer days, and possibly nights, for the first weeks at home, then cut back as your parent regains strength.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

For a private hire in Weaverville, the state minimum of $16.90 an hour is the legal floor; UC Berkeley's inventory shows no local ordinance for the town. BLS reports a $16.50 May 2025 aide median for the rural region containing Trinity County, while the county's IHSS rate is $18.25. An agency would cost more: CareScout's 2025 California median was $40 an hour, and any agency would be coming from outside the county. Hire a personal attendant on your own payroll and the DIR rules apply: overtime starts after the ninth hour of a day or the 45th of a week. If your parent is on full-scope Medi-Cal, ask the IHSS office about county-paid hours before you set a private budget.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
