How to find an in-home caregiver in Trinity County
Distance decides most hiring here. The Department of Finance counts 15,844 residents and no incorporated city, and Weaverville, the largest community, has only about 4,018 people. For daily visits, a caregiver who lives close to your parent is often a better choice than a longer resume from much farther away. Name the community in your post and say whether driving is part of the job.
The pool of applicants will be small. ACS 2020–2024 counts roughly 4,795 county residents aged 65 or over, close to a third of the population, and about 1,140 households where an older person lives alone. The state licensing file lists no licensed home care organization and no residential care home for the elderly in the county, which means you are mostly choosing among independent workers, relatives and IHSS providers. Profiles nearest your ZIP code are listed first.

Types of in-home care families in Trinity County arrange
All non-medical. For nursing tasks (injections, wound care, catheters) you need a licensed home health agency, not a private caregiver.
- Senior care at home: meals, reminders, housekeeping, errands, company.
- Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transfers.
- Companion care: conversation, walks, appointments, errands.
- Dementia care: routine-based support; ask for experience.
- Respite care: shifts so a family caregiver can rest or work.
- Overnight and live-in: night supervision or room-and-board arrangements.
- Post-surgery recovery: non-medical help after a hospital stay.
- Part-time and flexible: a few hours on set days is the usual start.
Evaluating caregivers in Trinity County
Check each credential an applicant names. A Trinity County IHSS provider has completed county enrollment: an application, a background check, a signed provider agreement and orientation. Ask a CNA applicant to show the CDPH certificate. Registry enrollment as a home care aide is an agency requirement, and with no licensed agency in the county, most applicants will not have it. Phone two references, then book a single paid trial before you settle on regular days. CaregiverConnect confirms nothing about identity, criminal record or references; families who want a background report buy one themselves after the applicant agrees in writing.
Questions families here ask at interview

- What did you do for clients in the weeks after a Trinity Hospital or nursing-unit discharge?
- If my father gets IHSS hours, are you already a Trinity County provider or ready to sign up?
- Is your car insured for taking my mother to Weaverville or Redding appointments?
- If the phone line or power failed while you were here, what is your plan?
- Tell me about a client with dementia living on their own: what kept them safe when you were gone?
What in-home care costs in Trinity County: hourly rates and schedules
Weaverville and Hayfork. Where the drive is short, families often post a morning visit for washing, breakfast and pills plus a short evening call. Outlying homes. Fewer, longer shifts usually work better, two or three days a week, so the caregiver is not driving the same road twice a day. Coming home from Trinity Hospital. The first weeks may call for long days or someone overnight; reduce hours as recovery allows.
| Reference point | Hourly | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Employed aides, North Valley-Northern Mountains nonmetro area (includes Trinity County) | $16.50 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 |
| IHSS provider wage, Trinity County | $18.25 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Agency non-medical home care, California median (CareScout 2025) | $40.00 | CareScout Cost of Care Survey 2025 |
Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
Start a private wage discussion from four benchmarks. No Trinity County community has its own minimum in UC Berkeley's ordinance inventory, so the floor is California's $16.90. Aides in the ten-county BLS nonmetro region that includes Trinity earned a $16.50 median in May 2025. IHSS pays Trinity County providers $18.25. Across California, agency home care had a $40 median hourly price in CareScout's 2025 survey, though none of those agencies is licensed at a Trinity County address. As the direct employer of a personal attendant, your family owes time and a half for any time worked past nine hours daily or 45 weekly. The county says an IHSS applicant must be on full-scope Medi-Cal and may still owe a share of cost, so a parent on Medi-Cal should phone 530-623-8209 before you settle a budget.
No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

The simplest route, the county says, is for your parent to phone the IHSS office on 530-623-8209; applying in person also works. Full-scope Medi-Cal is required. After the application, a county social worker comes out to the house and decides how many hours to authorize.

Can my mother move to assisted living without leaving the county?
None is licensed there: the May 25, 2025 CDSS file has no RCFE in Trinity County. For 24-hour nursing, the option in the county is the 13-bed skilled nursing facility at Trinity Hospital in Weaverville.

Dad no longer drives. How does he reach the doctor?
