Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Trinity County
Trinity County is a very small market for care work: DOF's estimate for the start of 2026 is 15,844 people. Weaverville, a census-designated place with about 4,018 people in ACS 2020–2024, holds roughly a quarter of them; the rest are spread across unincorporated communities. Most of the county's care system is in Weaverville. IHSS, APS and the Public Guardian all sit within Health and Human Services at 51 Industrial Parkway, and Mountain Communities Healthcare District runs Trinity Hospital and its nursing unit on Easter Avenue. The district also runs the Hayfork Community Health Clinic.
ACS 2020–2024 puts the county's median age at 54.9, with 30.2% of residents (about 4,795 people) aged 65 or older and 424 aged 85 or more. More than half of all households (54.8%) include someone 65 or over, and about 1,140 households consist of one older person living alone. In your profile, name each community you will drive to; a caregiver based in Hayfork and one in Lewiston reach different families.

Caregiver pay in Trinity County: how much caregivers make
Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the North Valley-Northern Mountains Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Trinity and nine other counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.
| Measure | Hourly | Source and coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Home health and personal care aides, North Valley-Northern Mountains Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Trinity and nine other counties) | $16.50 median ($17.00 mean) | BLS OEWS, May 2025; 5,000 jobs; concentration 1.73× national |
| IHSS provider wage, Trinity County | $18.25 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Nursing assistants, North Valley-Northern Mountains Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Trinity and nine other counties) | $22.66 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison) |
Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
BLS does not publish aide wages for Trinity County alone. In the May 2025 survey Trinity is pooled with nine other rural counties, Siskiyou, Tehama, Plumas and Nevada among them. Its 5,000 aides had a $16.50 median and a $17.00 mean wage, and nursing assistants there earned a $22.66 median. At $18.25 an hour from January 1, 2026, the CDSS table puts Trinity County's IHSS rate $1.35 above the state minimum. UC Berkeley's inventory of local ordinances lists no Trinity County community, so $16.90 is the legal floor for private jobs. Personal attendants on a family's own payroll earn 1.5 times their rate for the tenth hour of a day onward, and beyond the 45th hour of a week.
About 5.8% of Trinity County's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates; California's average over the same months was 5.3%. Monthly figures ranged from 4.7% to 6.9%. Hours authorized under IHSS in Trinity County are a steady source of income in a market that small.
How to enroll as a provider in Trinity County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Trinity County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Trinity County
California asks for no license when a household employs you itself for non-medical care. Home Care Aide Registry enrollment is tied to working for a licensed home care organization, and none has a Trinity County address in the CDSS licensing file of May 25, 2025. To become an IHSS provider, call the county IHSS office on 530-623-8209. Staff send a login for the state provider portal, so you need an email address. Four steps are listed by the county (application, background check, provider agreement, orientation), and you will be asked for an original photo ID and your Social Security card. The county's Adult Services unit screens, enrolls and trains providers and keeps the list of approved providers itself; its pages describe no separate Public Authority. For the hospital's nursing unit, expect to need a nurse assistant certificate from CDPH. Paid caregivers of elders and dependent adults are mandated reporters of abuse. The wider rules are in our guide to California caregiver requirements.
