Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Kings County

Kings is a small county to search. About 154,000 people live here, and four out of five live in its four cities: Hanford (60,837), Lemoore (27,216), Corcoran (21,504) and Avenal (13,142), with another 31,055 in unincorporated places such as Armona, Stratford and Kettleman City (Department of Finance, January 2026). Expect most private requests to come from Hanford and Lemoore, because that is where most people live and where the county's only general hospital and all three of its nursing homes are. Families in Corcoran and Avenal post too, and those addresses are a separate drive across open farmland, so say plainly in your profile which towns you will cover and whether you can absorb the mileage.

Plan on driving. The ACS 2020–2024 found that 77.1% of Kings County workers drove to work alone and only 0.4% used public transportation, with an average commute of 23.0 minutes. Spanish counts for a great deal here: it is the home language of 37.7% of residents aged five and up, and 41.9% use some language other than English, so a bilingual caregiver should put that in the first line of a profile. The profile guide walks through each section.

Types of caregiver jobs

Types of caregiver jobs in Kings County

Kings County households mainly ask for help after a stay at Adventist Health Hanford or a Hanford skilled nursing center, daily personal care for an older parent living on their own, rides to appointments in Hanford, Visalia or Fresno, and supervision for someone with dementia so that working relatives can keep their jobs. Without paid experience, companion care, meal preparation and errands are the usual way in.

  • Senior caregiving: day-to-day help so an older adult can stay at home.
  • Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers.
  • Companion care: company, errands, appointments, light help.
  • Dementia care: routine-based support for memory loss.
  • Respite care: cover so a family caregiver can rest or work.
  • Live-in: room and board as part of the arrangement.
  • Overnight: supervision through the night.
  • Part-time and full-time: set by day and time block on your profile.
Pay

Caregiver pay in Kings County: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Hanford–Corcoran, CA metro (Kings County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, Hanford–Corcoran, CA metro (Kings County)$16.50 median ($16.62 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 3,250 jobs; concentration 2.4× national
IHSS provider wage, Kings County$17.50CDSS; effective January 1, 2026
California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

The Hanford–Corcoran metro area is the whole of Kings County, and in May 2025 it counted 3,250 people in home health and personal care aide jobs, at a $16.50 median wage and a $16.62 mean. The location quotient of 2.40 means aide jobs make up well over twice the share of local employment that they do nationally. Kings County IHSS pays providers $17.50 from January 1, 2026, the same as neighboring Tulare County and $1.25 less than Fresno County's $18.75. The UC Berkeley Labor Center's list of local wage ordinances includes no city in Kings County, which leaves California's $16.90 as the floor in every town. With median gross rent at $1,331 a month (ACS 2020–2024), pay that sits a dollar or two above the minimum stretches further here than on the coast, but agree mileage up front if a client in Avenal or Corcoran needs rides to Hanford.

How to enroll as a provider in Kings County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Kings County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Kings County

Families who employ you themselves for non-medical help need not ask for a state license, since that kind of work has none. Registration with the state Home Care Aide Registry ($35) matters only when an agency licensed as a home care organization employs you; Kings County had one such licensee in the May 2025 state data, based in Lemoore. IHSS work runs through the Kings County IHSS Public Authority, which moved with the rest of Adult Services into the two-story building at 1222 W Lacey Blvd in Hanford; phone 559-852-4615 or 1-855-800-3021. A client who already wants to hire you calls the Public Authority to report the hire and request a Live Scan form and a new provider enrollment packet; if you do not know an IHSS client, ask the same number for a registry application. Mandated reporting applies to every caregiver, and Kings County APS answers 559-852-4000 around the clock. See IHSS in Kings County and California caregiver rules for detail.

Kings County in numbers

Kings is a young county, with a median age of 32.5 in ACS 2020–2024 and 10.8% of residents aged 65 or older, or 16,584 people, with 2,051 aged 85 and up. The need inside that smaller group is real: 44.0% of those 65 and over live with a disability, and 3,670 older residents live alone. Hispanic or Latino residents are 58.2% of the population, 19.2% were born abroad, and median household income is $70,995. Civilian veterans make up 6.7% of adults, and NAS Lemoore, commissioned in July 1961, provided almost 8,500 jobs in fiscal 2019 according to the Navy.

Hospital care is concentrated in one place. The state facility list for September 2026 shows a single general acute hospital in the county, Adventist Health Hanford on Mall Drive (173 licensed beds per HCAI), and three skilled nursing facilities, all in Hanford: Brighton Post Acute (131 beds), Hanford Post Acute (124) and Kings Healthcare and Wellness Center (70). Only six licensed elderly care homes were open in May 2025, five of them in Hanford, which leaves home care as the main option for many older residents. Neighboring markets are on the Tulare County and Fresno County pages.

Questions

Caregiver jobs in Kings County: frequently asked questions

What does IHSS pay in Kings County?

The CDSS wage table lists $17.50 per hour for Kings County providers, effective January 1, 2026. That matches Tulare County and is below the $18.75 paid across the county line in Fresno County.

How do I become a paid IHSS provider in Kings County?

Call the IHSS Public Authority in Hanford on 559-852-4615. If a client has already chosen you, the client reports the hire, and the Public Authority sends you the Live Scan form and the packet; otherwise ask for a registry application so the county can refer clients to you.

Is there a CNA class in Kings County?

Yes. Lemoore College on College Avenue in Lemoore runs a nurse assistant training class of about two months with hospital-based clinical training, which prepares you for the certification exam.

Is the minimum wage in Hanford or Lemoore above the state rate?

No. None of the county's four cities has passed a local wage law listed by the Labor Center, so employers everywhere in Kings pay at least $16.90.

Can I work in Corcoran or Avenal if I live in Hanford?

You can. KART runs out-of-town routes from Hanford to both cities at $1.75 a ride, but check the timetable against your shift times before you accept; with a car, those clients are far easier to keep.
