Finding caregiver jobs in Tulare County

The county is large, but the places where families actually post care needs are few and well connected: Visalia (the county seat) and Tulare sit a short drive apart on Highway 99 and function as one labour market; Porterville is the second centre, south-east on Highway 65 with its own hospital and college; Dinuba and the Cutler-Orosi area form a northern cluster close to the Fresno County line. The foothill towns draw on Visalia-based caregivers, the southern Highway 99 communities on Tulare and Porterville. A caregiver who lives in Visalia and sets a 20-mile radius reaches Tulare, Exeter, Farmersville, Lindsay and Woodlake, roughly half the county's population.

CaregiverConnect has not yet signed up caregivers or families in Tulare County, so there are no local postings to show today; the list below draws from a 50-mile radius as families join. The useful first step is a complete profile with your town, the towns you will drive to, your languages and the care you can do, with alerts on. Spanish is spoken at home by 46% of county residents, so a bilingual profile is an advantage in every town and close to essential in Dinuba, Cutler-Orosi and Earlimart.

Types of caregiver jobs

Types of caregiver jobs in Tulare County

Requests across the county are mostly daytime help for a parent or grandparent, respite for a relative who works in the fields, packing houses or dairies, and dementia supervision. Early-morning and seasonal schedules follow the harvest calendar; overnight requests tend to follow a hospital discharge. Live-in is rare.

  • Senior caregiving: day-to-day help so an older adult can stay at home.
  • Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers.
  • Companion care: company, errands, appointments, light help.
  • Dementia care: routine-based support for memory loss.
  • Respite care: cover so a family caregiver can rest or work.
  • Live-in: room and board as part of the arrangement.
  • Overnight: supervision through the night.
  • Part-time and full-time: set by day and time block on your profile.
Pay

Caregiver pay in Tulare County

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Visalia, CA metro (Tulare County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, Visalia, CA metro (Tulare County)$16.50 median ($16.89 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 8,220 jobs; concentration 1.73× national
IHSS provider wage, Tulare County$17.50CDSS; effective January 1, 2026
California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Tulare County projection: 8,290 aide jobs in 2023 to 10,510 in 2033 (+26.8%), about 15,910 openings over the decade including replacements (California EDD, 2023–2033 projections). Openings are not the same as net new jobs.

Three numbers frame caregiver pay here: the $16.90 state minimum wage, the $16.50 median for the 8,220 employed aides in the Visalia metro (which is Tulare County), and the $17.50 IHSS rate from January 2026. The IHSS rate sits above the employed median, so it is the benchmark local caregivers quote; personal care, dementia care, nights and drives between towns are priced above it. No city in the county has its own minimum-wage ordinance; farm employment moved from 32,100 in July 2026 to 35,600 in August, the seasonal swing that shapes when families need cover.

IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Tulare County

Tulare County applies California's rules without local additions. A caregiver a family hires directly for non-medical help needs no licence; aides employed by a licensed home-care agency must be on the Home Care Aide Registry, and independents may join it voluntarily ($35 plus Live Scan) to be checkable. IHSS providers enrol through the Tulare County Health and Human Services Agency office on West Noble Avenue in Visalia (application, Department of Justice fingerprints, orientation); the county's IHSS Public Authority is a member of the statewide association of public authorities. CNA certification comes from CDPH after a course such as College of the Sequoias' NURS 260. Everyone paid to care for an older adult is a mandated reporter; report to Tulare County Adult Protective Services, (877) 657-3092, or the statewide 24-hour line, 1-833-401-0832. The California requirements guide covers the detail.

The area

Tulare County in numbers

The Department of Finance put the county at 489,610 residents on 1 January 2026. It is young for California: 11.9% of residents are 65 or older against 15.7% statewide (ACS 2020–2024), and the median age is 32. Two-thirds of residents are Hispanic or Latino and 46% speak Spanish at home. Department of Finance projections have the 65-and-over population climbing from roughly 58,400 (2025) to roughly 75,700 (2035), so the share of older residents rises even as the county stays young overall. Farm work is 35,600 of 180,200 jobs (August 2026), the largest sector; unemployment was 10.4% against 5.4% statewide.

In May 2025 the Visalia metro employed 8,220 home health and personal care aides, 73% more concentrated than the national average; EDD expects 26.8% growth in the decade to 2033 with 15,910 openings. The towns differ: Visalia has the oldest profile (13.5% aged 65+) and the lowest Spanish-at-home share (27.4%); Porterville is 12.2% and 51.4%; Tulare 9.4% and 43.0%; Dinuba 8.8% and 62.9%. Hospitals: Kaweah Health in Visalia (the only Level III trauma centre between Bakersfield and Fresno), Sierra View in Porterville (167 beds), Adventist Health Tulare (108 beds); Dinuba uses Adventist Health Reedley in Fresno County. Neighbouring pages: Bakersfield to the south and Merced to the north.
