Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Fresno County
Fresno County is really three caregiving markets that share one IHSS office. The first is the Fresno–Clovis metro, where the Department of Finance counted 560,948 people in Fresno and 129,889 in Clovis on January 1, 2026: two out of every three county residents. Hospitals and adult day health centers cluster here, and clients are close together. The second is the string of east-side farm towns along Highway 99 and the foothills: Sanger, Reedley, Selma, Kingsburg, Parlier, Fowler and Orange Cove. The third is the west side across the valley floor, where Kerman, Firebaugh, Mendota, San Joaquin, Huron and Coalinga sit far apart from each other and from downtown Fresno.
Choose which of the three you serve before you write a profile. Put in your home ZIP code and a radius that matches the roads you would really drive; a caregiver in Kerman who sets 50 miles is telling families in Clovis that a long cross-valley trip is fine twice a day. If you live in Reedley or Mendota, say so plainly. List Spanish if you speak it: per ACS 2020–2024, 33.3% of county residents five and older speak it at home, and 12.8% are Spanish speakers who report limited English. Mention any Asian, Pacific Island or other Indo-European language as well; 5.8% and 3.7% of residents speak a language from those two groups at home.

Caregiver pay in Fresno County: how much caregivers make
Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Fresno, CA metro (Fresno County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.
| Measure | Hourly | Source and coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Home health and personal care aides, Fresno, CA metro (Fresno County) | $16.50 median ($16.83 mean) | BLS OEWS, May 2025; 33,580 jobs; concentration 2.54× national |
| IHSS provider wage, Fresno County | $18.75 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Nursing assistants, Fresno, CA metro (Fresno County) | $21.50 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison) |
Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
Fresno MSA (Fresno and Madera counties) projection: 28,870 aide jobs in 2023 to 38,830 in 2033 (+34.5%), about 59,260 openings over the decade including replacements (California EDD, 2023–2033 projections). Openings are not the same as net new jobs.
A location quotient of 2.54 means aides hold about two and a half times their national share of local jobs, and EDD projects the occupation to grow 34.5% across Fresno and Madera counties between 2023 and 2033, against 7.5% for all occupations. The figure specific to this county is the $18.75 IHSS wage, which is $0.85 above Madera County and $1.25 above Tulare, Kings and Merced on the CDSS table. The Berkeley Labor Center's inventory of local wage laws lists no city or unincorporated area in Fresno County, so private employers anywhere in the county answer to California's $16.90.
How to enroll as a provider in Fresno County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Fresno County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.
How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

What is the IHSS hourly rate for Fresno County providers?
$18.75 per hour, in effect since January 1, 2026, which is also the figure the Public Authority also quotes to registry recruits. Neighboring Madera pays $17.90 and Tulare $17.50; the Fresno County IHSS guide walks through enrollment.

How do I join the IHSS Public Authority registry?

Do I need a car to work outside the metro?
Usually. Rural Transit connects the towns, and older and disabled riders travel free on its in-town buses, but routes are limited, so families in small towns tend to ask whether you drive.
