Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Madera County

Think of Madera County as two halves. On the valley floor, the city of Madera, Chowchilla to the north, the Madera Ranchos and Madera Acres, and small farm communities hold most of the people, the main county offices and the two hospitals we checked with HCAI. The eastern side climbs through Coarsegold and Oakhurst to Bass Lake and North Fork, where the population is far smaller but much older. A caregiver search there is less about the number of postings and more about distance: North Fork and Bass Lake are a long drive from the valley, so a hill family is best served by someone who lives nearby.

The county's own numbers show what is at stake. Madera County Department of Social Services says it serves 1,677 IHSS recipients with roughly 1,300 individual providers, and that providers can be relatives, people the recipient picks, or someone matched through the Public Authority registry. In your profile, say which half of the county you can cover, if you are comfortable driving Highway 41 or 99, and if you speak Spanish, which 42.7% of county residents five and older use at home (ACS 2020–2024).

Types of caregiver jobs

Types of caregiver jobs in Madera County

The county lists the tasks IHSS can pay for, and private requests look much the same: housecleaning, meals, laundry, grocery runs, bathing and grooming, and going along to medical appointments. In the mountain communities add longer blocks and some overnight stays, since short split shifts rarely make sense on foothill roads. Newer caregivers usually begin with companionship, errands and meal help.

  • Senior caregiving: day-to-day help so an older adult can stay at home.
  • Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers.
  • Companion care: company, errands, appointments, light help.
  • Dementia care: routine-based support for memory loss.
  • Respite care: cover so a family caregiver can rest or work.
  • Live-in: room and board as part of the arrangement.
  • Overnight: supervision through the night.
  • Part-time and full-time: set by day and time block on your profile.
Pay

Caregiver pay in Madera County: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Fresno MSA, Fresno and Madera counties (EDD 2026 release); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, Fresno MSA, Fresno and Madera counties (EDD 2026 release)$16.92 median ($17.26 mean)California EDD OEWS, May 2025 jobs, Q1 2026 wages; 33,580 jobs
IHSS provider wage, Madera County$17.90CDSS; effective July 1, 2026
California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026
Nursing assistants, Fresno MSA, Fresno and Madera counties (EDD 2026 release)$22.04 medianCalifornia EDD OEWS, May 2025 jobs, Q1 2026 wages (certified roles, for comparison)

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Fresno and Madera counties projection: 28,870 aide jobs in 2023 to 38,830 in 2033 (+34.5%), about 59,260 openings over the decade including replacements (California EDD, 2023–2033 projections). Openings are not the same as net new jobs.

Federal statistics publish no separate home care row for a Madera metro area this year. California EDD's 2026 wage release puts Madera County inside the Fresno MSA, where the May 2025 count of home health and personal care aides was 33,580, paid a $16.92 median and a $17.26 mean at first-quarter 2026 wage levels; nursing assistants in the same area had a $22.04 median. The county IHSS rate of $17.90, in force since July 1, 2026, sits about a dollar above the aide median, though below Fresno County's $18.75. UC Berkeley's ordinance list includes no Madera County city, which leaves California's $16.90 as the wage floor from Chowchilla to North Fork. EDD projects aide jobs in the two-county area to grow from 28,870 in 2023 to 38,830 in 2033.
