Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Le Grand

Le Grand has no city government of its own; the Census Bureau maps it as a census-designated place, and the land around it is unincorporated Merced County, with 1.14 square miles of land in its 2024 gazetteer and 1,636 residents in ACS 2020–2024 (margin ±285). That makes the local job market a short list of households rather than a list of employers, and most of the paid care work you find here will come from three places: families who hire you directly, IHSS recipients who choose you as their provider, and employers in Merced that you reach by car or bus.

The state files show how little licensed care sits inside the town itself. CDPH's facility listing dated October 16, 2026 has one licensed facility in ZIP 95333, a Golden Valley Health Centers primary care clinic on Jefferson Street, and in the state's Community Care Licensing files of May 2025, no licensed elder care home, adult residential home or home care organization carries a Le Grand address. So there is no local agency to sign on with; a profile that says plainly you live in or near 95333, speak Spanish if you do, and can drive clients to appointments in Merced will stand out to the families who search here.

Expect requests for help at home: bathing and dressing, meals, housekeeping, company during the day and rides to the clinic or to specialists in Merced. ACS counts 151 Le Grand residents aged 65 and over, a quarter of whom (25.2%) report a disability, and 110 of the town's 512 households include an older person. Because those numbers are small, a single client can fill many of your weekly hours, especially through IHSS. If you have no paid experience yet, caring for a relative who receives IHSS is a common first step, and it gives you a reference for later private work.

Pay

Caregiver pay in Le Grand: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Merced, CA metro (all of Merced County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, Merced, CA metro (all of Merced County)$16.50 median ($16.82 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 4,990 jobs; concentration 2.27× national
IHSS provider wage, Merced County$17.50CDSS; effective January 1, 2026

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Merced County projection: 4,650 aide jobs in 2023 to 5,830 in 2033 (+25.4%), about 8,810 openings over the decade including replacements (California EDD, 2023–2033 projections). Openings are not the same as net new jobs.

About 12.0% of Le Grand's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates. That is above Merced County's 9.5% and well above California's 5.3%. Le Grand's labor force is only about 700 people, and for a community this size EDD derives the number from county-level data, which makes it a rough guide; monthly values ran from 10.7% to 13.6%. In a place like this, authorized IHSS hours paid at the county's $17.50 rate are among the few kinds of work here that hold steady through the year (the Merced County IHSS guide explains enrollment). No local wage ordinance covers unincorporated Merced County in UC Berkeley Labor Center's inventory. Private pay therefore starts at the $16.90 state minimum, and if a household employs you as its personal attendant, any time past 9 hours in one day or 45 in one week earns time and a half. ACS puts Le Grand's median household income at $45,938, an estimate with a wide margin (±$25,284); bear it in mind when you quote families an hourly price.

How to enroll as a provider in Merced County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Merced County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Le Grand

Private, non-medical work for a Le Grand household needs no state license. The Home Care Aide Registry matters once a licensed home care organization puts you on its payroll, and no such organization operates in the town. For IHSS, the county's adult services line is (209) 385-3105; the recipient has to be aged 65+, blind or disabled, have been found eligible for Medi-Cal and send in a health care certification form, and you complete provider enrollment, including Live Scan fingerprints. The Merced County Sheriff's Department, 777 W. 22nd Street in Merced, takes Live Scan walk-ins and appointments on weekdays from 8 to 5 for a $28 rolling fee. Work in a nursing facility needs a CNA certificate. As a paid caregiver you are also a mandated reporter, obliged to report any abuse you suspect. More detail: California caregiver requirements.

The area

Le Grand in numbers

ACS 2020–2024 describes a young, mostly Spanish-speaking town: median age 32.2, with 84.5% of residents Hispanic or Latino. Half of residents five and older (49.4%) speak Spanish at home, and 23.4% of residents five and up are Spanish speakers whose English, by their own report, is less than "very well", so bilingual caregivers have a real advantage here. Workers spend an average of 40.6 minutes getting to work, 81.1% drive alone and almost none (0.3%) take transit. Owners occupy 61.7% of homes, valued at a median $286,000; median gross rent is $866 and 8.4% of households have no vehicle. The poverty rate is 21.9%, and education, health care and social assistance together employ 23.5% of working residents.

Within the town, the bus map for the P route marks Le Grand High School and Le Grand Elementary beside the Community Park stop, with the Golden Valley clinic as the route's other Le Grand stop. The county's Living Well Cafe senior lunch sites do not include Le Grand; the list does include Planada, at 9167 Stanford Street, and the P bus stops on Stanford Avenue in Planada. For neighboring job markets see Planada, Merced and Atwater; the Merced County page covers services for the whole county.

Questions

Caregiver jobs in Le Grand: frequently asked questions

Is Le Grand a city?

No. Le Grand is a census-designated place in unincorporated Merced County, so county departments, not a city government, handle services such as IHSS. Its ZIP code is 95333.

Are there care agencies or care homes in Le Grand to apply to?

The state files show none. In the May 2025 licensing data Le Grand has no home care organization, elderly care home or adult residential facility, and CDPH lists only the Golden Valley clinic. Most local work is private or IHSS.

Can I get from Le Grand to Merced without a car?

The P Planada Commuter does it, which stops at the Golden Valley clinic and the Community Park and runs seven days a week. It is $3 between towns, and riders 62 and older ride free with ID.

What does IHSS pay a Le Grand provider?

$17.50 an hour, the Merced County rate from January 1, 2026 in the CDSS wage table. The rate follows the county where your client lives, so a client across a county line is paid at that county's rate.

Why does IHSS matter for Le Grand caregivers?

EDD's estimate puts Le Grand's average unemployment at 12.0% over the year to August 2026, against 9.5% for the county. Small-area figures like this one rest on county data, so read it as approximate; IHSS hours, though, carry on year round.

Do I need to speak Spanish?

It is not required, but it helps: ACS counts roughly half of Le Grand's residents (five and older) as Spanish speakers at home. List your languages and your level in each on your profile.

Where do Le Grand families post care requests?

On the Le Grand family page. Caregivers join and apply free, and keep all of their pay.
