Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Madera

Madera is a city of 67,759 (Department of Finance, January 2026) on Highway 99 between Chowchilla and Fresno, and most private caregiver jobs here are set up by sons and daughters for a mother or father living in their own house. The housing is a mix: 54.7% of homes are owner-occupied and 45.3% rented (ACS 2020–2024). Searches cluster around a few addresses everyone in town knows, the county Department of Social Services campus on Sunrise Avenue, Madera Community Hospital on East Almond Avenue, and the two city senior centers, so naming the parts of town you can reach quickly tells a family more than a mileage radius does.

Language is the strongest asset you can list. In ACS 2020–2024, 81.1% of Madera's people are Hispanic or Latino; Spanish is the home language for 58.3% of residents aged five and up, and for 25.3% English is difficult (they rate it below "very well"). Someone who can read a prescription label in English and explain it in Spanish fills a real gap. If you also cover the Madera Ranchos, Madera Acres or Chowchilla, say so; families in all three often search with a Madera address.

Pay

Caregiver pay in Madera: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Fresno MSA, Fresno and Madera counties (EDD 2026 release); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, Fresno MSA, Fresno and Madera counties (EDD 2026 release)$16.92 median ($17.26 mean)California EDD OEWS, May 2025 jobs, Q1 2026 wages; 33,580 jobs
IHSS provider wage, Madera County$17.90CDSS; effective July 1, 2026
California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026
Nursing assistants, Fresno MSA, Fresno and Madera counties (EDD 2026 release)$22.04 medianCalifornia EDD OEWS, May 2025 jobs, Q1 2026 wages (certified roles, for comparison)

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

There is no stand-alone Madera metro row in the May 2025 federal wage tables; EDD's 2026 release counts Madera with Fresno in a single Fresno MSA, where the early-2026 median was $16.92 for aides and $22.04 for nursing assistants. Madera has no city minimum wage ordinance in UC Berkeley's inventory, so $16.90 is the legal floor. A Madera County IHSS provider earns $17.90 from July 1, 2026. Remember that a client a few miles south across the county line in Fresno County is paid at that county's IHSS rate, $18.75. For private work, a dollar or two above the IHSS rate is a reasonable opening ask when the job includes personal care, Spanish, or driving.

How to enroll as a provider in Madera County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Madera County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Questions

Caregiver jobs in Madera: frequently asked questions

How much do caregiver jobs in Madera pay?

County IHSS pays $17.90 an hour from July 1, 2026. In EDD's Fresno MSA figures, which include Madera, the aide median was $16.92 in early 2026. Private families set their own rates, and none may go under California's $16.90, since UC Berkeley's inventory lists no Madera wage ordinance.

Where is the IHSS office in Madera?

Adult Services, which runs IHSS and Adult Protective Services, is at 1610 Sunrise Avenue, Madera 93638, phone (559) 662-2600. The Department of Social Services administration office is at 1626 Sunrise Avenue.

Can I get paid to care for my own parent in Madera?

Yes, if the parent qualifies for IHSS. The county says providers can be a relative or someone the recipient selects; you then complete Public Authority enrollment, including Live Scan and the orientation.

Is speaking Spanish an advantage here?

A large one. Over half the city's residents use Spanish at home, and a quarter have limited English. List it in your profile headline.

Can I reach clients without a car?

Partly. Madera Metro runs four fixed routes inside the city on weekdays and Saturdays, and the county bus connects Madera with Chowchilla and the foothills. Clients in the Ranchos or out of town usually need a driver.

Is there a CNA course in Madera?

We did not find one listed. Madera Community College trains LVNs, and the Workforce Assistance Center can help fund approved training at schools outside the city.
