Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Kerman

Kerman's older residents are spread through ordinary family homes. The 2020–2024 American Community Survey counts 1,610 Kerman residents aged 65 or over, 9.6% of the population, and 1,268 households (24.1%) with at least one of them; 437 people in that age group live alone. Almost no one lives in group quarters (the survey counts 7), so most older residents here who need help get it at home, from a relative, an IHSS provider or a paid private caregiver. Among residents 65 and up, 43.2% report a disability.

Write your profile for the households you would actually meet. Kerman's census profile shows Spanish used at home by 53.3% of residents past their fifth birthday, and 18.3% of them are Spanish speakers who rate their English below very well. A further 6.3% use an Indo-European language besides English and Spanish, so if you speak Punjabi, Hindi or another language from that group, put it in the first line. State whether you drive: 78.3% of Kerman workers drive alone, the survey finds almost none commuting by bus, and the average trip to work takes 21.3 minutes. Families with a parent who no longer drives will want someone who can handle trips to United Health Centers on South Madera Avenue or the urgent care on West Whitesbridge Avenue.

Steady pay matters in this labor market. About 9.9% of Kerman's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates. Fresno County as a whole averaged 8.2% and the state 5.3%; Kerman's monthly figure stayed between 9.0% and 11.0%. Paid caregiving through Fresno County IHSS is work a resident can take up for a relative or neighbor without leaving town.

Types of caregiver jobs in Kerman

Expect Kerman families to post for meal preparation and housekeeping for a parent who lives alone, help with showers and dressing, rides to clinic and pharmacy visits, and supervision for someone with memory loss while working relatives are out. Kerman also has paid settings for aides: Autumn Ridge Assisted Living on West Stanislaus Avenue is licensed for 54 residents, and a six-bed adult residential home operates on South Third Street, according to state licensing data. With no experience, start with companion visits, errands and meals; with a CNA certificate, list it, because transfer and bathing requests are where it counts.

Pay

Caregiver pay in Kerman: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Fresno, CA metro (Fresno County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

Nursing assistants, Fresno, CA metro (Fresno County)$21.50 medianBLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison)

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Kerman passes no local wage law of its own on the UC Berkeley Labor Center's tally, so the state's $16.90 is the lowest legal hourly rate for a private caregiving job in town. A provider paid through Fresno County IHSS earns $18.75 for each authorized hour, $2.25 above the metro median for aides, and the county pays the provider directly. Household budgets set the ceiling on private rates: ACS puts Kerman's median household income at $59,799, with 13.5% of residents 65 and older living in poverty and a median gross rent of $1,223. If a family employs you as a personal attendant, state law on domestic workers entitles you to 1.5 times pay when a shift runs past nine hours or the week past 45; settle that, and mileage for any trip out of town, before the first shift.

How to enroll as a provider in Fresno County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Fresno County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Kerman

Kerman does not add any rules of its own. Families who pay you themselves for non-medical help cannot ask you for a state license, because none exists for that work; registration with the Home Care Aide Registry comes into play once a licensed agency puts you on its payroll. IHSS enrollment with Fresno County Social Services starts on the web, where the orientation videos, the SOC 426 enrollment form and the SOC 846 agreement are all completed; a brief office visit follows, at which staff copy your ID and Social Security card and hand you the Live Scan form. You can be fingerprinted in town at the Kerman Police Department, 850 S. Madera Avenue, by appointment on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons or Wednesday mornings; the listed rolling fee is $25. Nursing facility work needs a CDPH certificate. Once paid to care, you are a mandated reporter under state law; suspected abuse in Kerman goes to the county's 24-hour APS Careline on (559) 600-3383. State rules are set out in full in the requirements guide.
