How to find an in-home caregiver in Kerman

Most older people in Kerman live with family. The 2020–2024 census survey finds 1,268 Kerman households that include someone 65 or older, close to a quarter of all households, and the average household has 3.2 people. Another 437 residents in that age group live alone, and they are often the ones who need a paid caregiver first. Because Kerman is a city of about 17,500 people, a part-time job is easiest to fill with someone who already lives here and can reach your home in a few minutes.

Spell out language in the post. Just over half of Kerman residents (53.3%) use Spanish at home, and about one in sixteen uses another Indo-European tongue; if your mother is more comfortable in Punjabi or Spanish, write that in the opening sentence so the right caregivers apply. Say, too, whether the job includes driving, because outside the town's dial-a-ride area most errands depend on a car. The profiles below are ranked by distance from whichever ZIP you search, and they change as new caregivers join.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Kerman

Ask each applicant what they can show you. A certified nursing assistant's status can be looked up with CDPH. Anyone who has worked as a Fresno County IHSS provider went through the county's enrollment and a Department of Justice fingerprint check through Live Scan, which Kerman residents can do at the police department on South Madera Avenue. State licensing data from May 2025 show no licensed home care organization based in Kerman, so a private applicant is most likely self-employed; the Home Care Aide Registry is optional for them, so if they say they are listed, look the number up. Phone two references yourself, have your parent present when you interview, and book a paid trial morning before you settle on regular days. Our platform performs no background, license or reference screening, so a background report, if you want one, is yours to order, with written consent from the applicant.

Questions families here ask at interview

  • Where in Kerman do you live, and how many minutes is that from us?
  • At his United Health Centers visits, could you talk with my father in Spanish or Punjabi?
  • Would you take him to lunch at the Kerman Senior Center on South 8th Street and pick him up afterwards?
  • Have you booked Kerman Transit Dial-A-Ride rides for a client before?
  • Are you already an enrolled Fresno County IHSS provider, or would you be willing to enroll if he qualifies?
  • What would you do if he fell while you were with him and the urgent care on Whitesbridge was the nearest open clinic?
  • Can you work the same weekday hours each week, and who covers for you if you are sick?
Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Kerman: hourly rates and schedules

Weekday mornings and lunch. Many Kerman families need a caregiver for bathing, breakfast and getting a parent ready, sometimes ending with a drop-off at the senior center, where lunch is served at 11 a.m. on weekdays. Afternoon cover. Requests often cover the hours until working relatives return home. After a hospital stay. Kerman has no hospital of its own, so a parent coming home after a hospital stay elsewhere may need longer days, or nights, for the first few weeks.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Kerman has not passed its own minimum wage, according to UC Berkeley's ordinance inventory, so a caregiver you hire directly must earn at least $16.90 an hour. The comparisons: $18.75 from Fresno County IHSS, a $16.50 BLS median for aides in the metro, and CareScout puts California's median agency rate for non-medical home care at $40. If your relative is aged, blind or disabled and qualifies for Medi-Cal or SSI/SSP, apply to IHSS first; the county's intake line, (559) 600-6666 (option 1), takes the application, and approved hours can pay a caregiver your family chooses. Kerman families who employ an attendant themselves owe overtime, at 1.5 times the rate, for work beyond nine daily hours or 45 weekly ones.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
