How to find an in-home caregiver in Fresno
On CaregiverConnect you write one free post under your parent's Fresno ZIP code describing the help, the days and the hours, and caregivers whose travel radius reaches that address are told about it and can apply. Profiles of caregivers near Fresno appear above as they are published. Applicants may live in Fresno itself or drive in from Clovis, Sanger, Selma or Kerman, so ask each one where they start and how reliably they could be at the door by your start time. Describe the home and the person honestly: stairs, a walker or wheelchair, whether your parent uses FAX or Handy Ride, where they get medical care, and whether your parent is alone for part of the day. Well over a quarter of Fresno residents aged five and up (29.2%) speak Spanish at home and 7.6% speak Asian or Pacific Island languages, per ACS 2020–2024; name the language your parent prefers.

Evaluating caregivers in Fresno
A Fresno applicant may hold one of three credentials worth checking. Fresno County IHSS providers have completed the county's online enrollment, an in-person ID appointment and Department of Justice fingerprinting; those on the Public Authority registry have also passed a screening and hold CPR and First Aid certification. All agency aides, plus independents who choose to pay the fee, appear on California's Home Care Aide Registry. CNAs are certified by CDPH, often after a Fresno Adult School cohort on Stanislaus Street. Look each one up, then call two former clients or employers, meet with your parent present, order a background report only after the caregiver signs a consent form, and start with a paid trial week. Vetting is your responsibility: CaregiverConnect does not run background checks, and the Verified label tells you only that some paperwork was uploaded.
Questions families here ask at interview
- Which part of Fresno are you driving from, and what time could you arrive on weekdays?
- Have you cared for someone discharged from Community Regional, Kaiser Fresno or the VA on Clinton Avenue?
- Are you a Fresno County IHSS provider, a certified nursing assistant, or on the state aide registry?
- Could you get my father ready for the adult day center van and be home when it drops him off?
- Would you ride Handy Ride or FAX with my mother, or drive her in your own car?
- Can you speak with her in Spanish when she is confused in the evening?
- What hourly rate do you ask, and do nights or Sundays cost more?
What in-home care costs in Fresno: hourly rates and schedules
Typical set-ups in Fresno include weekday help while a parent's family is at work, split morning and late-afternoon visits around an adult day health program, nights after a hospital discharge or when dementia is advanced, and a weekend break for a husband or wife. Pairing daytime hours at a CBAS center with private help in the morning and evening often trims the paid hours you need.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
The legal minimum for a private caregiver in Fresno is California's $16.90, since no Fresno wage law appears in the Berkeley Labor Center's inventory. Fresno County pays its IHSS providers $18.75, aides employed in the metro earned a $16.50 median in May 2025, and agencies across California charge a median $40 hourly. Most direct hires in the city settle somewhere in the gap between those two figures, depending on the hours and the care. Fresno households have a median income of $70,991 (ACS 2020–2024), so check IHSS eligibility early if your parent has Medi-Cal, and keep in mind the overtime premium owed for any tenth hour in a day or 46th hour in a week.
No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
