How to find an in-home caregiver in Kingsburg

You are far from the only Kingsburg family arranging care. Census estimates for 2020–2024 find a resident aged 65-plus in more than four of every ten Kingsburg households, and 443 women and 225 men in that age group live alone. A good post says who the help is for, what they need (bathing, dressing, meals, medication reminders, rides, supervision), which days and hours, and what you will pay. Mention a diagnosis such as dementia or Parkinson's, and whether there are stairs or a pet in the house.

Applicants may live in Kingsburg itself or come up the road from Selma and Fowler. Ask for the language your parent is most comfortable in: 19.3% of residents five and older speak Spanish at home, and a small share, 3.4%, use an Asian or Pacific Island language. Caregiver profiles nearest to 93631 are shown first, and the list of nearby requests and caregivers above grows as more people in the area sign up.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Kingsburg

Three kinds of caregiver work in Kingsburg. Some are employed by a licensed home care organization; CDSS's May 2025 file lists two in town, In Home Services and The Way Home, and their aides must be on the state's Home Care Aide Registry, which you can search. Some are IHSS providers, who have been fingerprinted and attended the county orientation. Most private hires are independent, and the registry is voluntary for them. A nursing assistant certificate can be confirmed with CDPH. Whoever you choose, phone two references, ask what the caregiver did in a real emergency, and book a paid trial shift while you are at home. CaregiverConnect does not run background checks or confirm identities; a family that wants one arranges it directly, once the applicant agrees in writing.

Questions families here ask at interview

  • Do you live in Kingsburg, Selma or Fowler, and how would you reach us if your car broke down?
  • Would you drive my mother to the Sierra Street clinic or to appointments in Fresno, and what mileage would you charge?
  • Have you worked at Kingsburg Center or another nursing home, and are you a certified nursing assistant?
  • Are you an IHSS provider already, and would you enroll if my father is approved for hours?
  • My mother has memory loss and sometimes wanders in the evening. What have you done for a client like that?
  • Do you speak Spanish, or another language she may need?
  • How would you keep a log of medications and meals so the family can see it?
Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Kingsburg: hourly rates and schedules

Morning help. A short shift at the start of the day, covering the shower, dressing, breakfast and morning pills, is often enough for a parent who copes on their own after that. Weekday cover. Workers here average a 23.9-minute commute (ACS 2020–2024), so families who work in Fresno often book a caregiver from early morning until they get home. After a hospital or nursing-home stay. Longer shifts, sometimes overnight, for the first weeks, then tapering down. Respite. A fixed afternoon or weekend block so a spouse who provides most of the care can rest.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

When you hire directly, you are the employer: pay at least California's $16.90 (UC Berkeley's inventory has no Kingsburg wage law) and 1.5 times the rate after nine hours in a day or 45 in a week for a personal attendant. For comparison, aides employed across the Fresno metro earn a median $16.50, and Fresno County IHSS pays its providers $18.75. Kingsburg's ZIP code reaches into Tulare County, where IHSS pays $17.50, so check which county your parent's address is in. If your parent has Medi-Cal, apply to IHSS first; the Fresno County IHSS guide explains the steps, and the county then pays for authorized hours with a provider of your family's choosing.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

Questions

Hiring a caregiver in Kingsburg: frequently asked questions

Is there assisted living in Kingsburg?

The CDSS licensing file from May 2025 shows no residential care home for the elderly in Kingsburg. The city has one skilled nursing facility, Kingsburg Center, and two licensed home care agencies, so many families combine a private caregiver with IHSS hours at home.

My mother lives outside town but has a Kingsburg address. Which county applies?

It depends on where the house is. ZIP 93631 crosses into Tulare County. A Fresno County address is served by Fresno County IHSS at $18.75 an hour; a Tulare County one by Tulare County IHSS at $17.50.

Could my brother be paid by IHSS for looking after Dad in Kingsburg?

Yes, if he qualifies. Your father would first need a Medi-Cal eligibility determination and an assessed need for help at home. Fresno County IHSS then authorizes hours, and whoever he picks as provider, a son included, is paid for them.

How can my parent get around Kingsburg without driving?

Kingsburg Rural Transit gives rides within the city six days a week, and Southeast Transit buses go to downtown Fresno on weekdays at a reduced fare for riders 60 and older. A caregiver can ride along.

What does CaregiverConnect cost?

Posting is free. Family Premium costs $24.99 a month and unlocks messaging and hiring. CaregiverConnect does not screen caregivers, so references and any background check are up to you.
