How to find an in-home caregiver in Parlier

In Parlier, home care usually happens inside a big household. ACS 2020–2024 counts 1,014 households with someone 65 or older, 28.1% of the city's homes, and the average household has four people in it. Often the need is for daytime help, while adult children and grandchildren are at work or school: a caregiver who keeps a parent company, cooks, helps with bathing and gets them to the clinic. Another 182 older residents live alone, and they may need a visit every day.

Use your parent's own language in the post. Spanish is the home language for 78.9% of Parlier residents over age four, and 37.5% are Spanish speakers whose English is limited, so a bilingual or Spanish-speaking caregiver is what most Parlier families expect. Include the street or neighborhood, the days and hours, and whether you need someone with a car. Profiles shown on this page are sorted by distance from the ZIP you search, and new people sign up over time.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Parlier

Check what applicants say about themselves. A nursing assistant certificate can be confirmed through CDPH's online lookup. Fresno County IHSS providers have finished county enrollment, which includes Live Scan fingerprints with the state Department of Justice. No licensed home care agency has a current Parlier address in the state's May 2025 licensing data, so most people answering your post will be independent caregivers, for whom the Home Care Aide Registry is voluntary. Speak to two people the caregiver has worked for, bring your parent into the interview, and pay for a trial day first. CaregiverConnect does not check identity, criminal history, licenses or references; if you want a background report, get the caregiver's signed consent and order it yourself.

  • Have you used the free United Health Centers transportation to get a client to Manning Avenue or 3rd Street?
  • Could you ride the Orange Cove Inter-City bus with my father to an appointment in Fresno?
  • If the county approves hours for him, will you sign up as his Fresno County IHSS provider?

Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Parlier: hourly rates and schedules

Workday cover. The commonest Parlier request is a weekday block, often early morning to mid-afternoon, so a parent is not alone while the family works. Short daily visits. For a parent living alone, one or two hours a day for meals, medicines and a check-in. Weekend relief. Families who manage care themselves during the week sometimes book a Saturday or Sunday so the main family caregiver gets a break.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Because Parlier has no wage ordinance of its own (UC Berkeley Labor Center), a caregiver on your payroll must get the state minimum of $16.90 or more. For comparison, aides in the Fresno metro earn a $16.50 median (BLS, May 2025), Fresno County IHSS pays $18.75, and agency home care in California has a $40 median, according to CareScout. Parlier's median household income is $52,357, so for many families IHSS is the realistic way to pay for regular help: an older, blind or disabled parent who is on Medi-Cal or SSI/SSP can be referred by dialing (559) 600-6666 and pressing 1. Pay a privately employed attendant 1.5 times the rate once a shift goes past its ninth hour, or the week past its 45th.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

Questions

Hiring a caregiver in Parlier: frequently asked questions

Can I find a caregiver in Parlier who speaks Spanish?

That is the usual case here: most Parlier residents speak Spanish at home. Say in your post that Spanish is required, and ask applicants to answer you in Spanish so you can judge for yourself.

Does Parlier have a care home my mother could move to?

No. The state's licensing data show no residential care home for the elderly in Parlier, and CDPH lists only clinics in town, so Parlier families arrange care in the home.

How can my mother get to her clinic appointments?

Both United Health Centers sites in Parlier list free transportation for patients; ask the clinic when you book. Parlier Transit is free in town for seniors on weekdays from 7 to 4.

Can IHSS pay a relative to care for my father in Parlier?

Yes, if the county approves him. Fresno County pays the provider he chooses, which can be a family member, $18.75 an hour for authorized hours. The county's intake line is (559) 600-6666; option 1 starts an application.

Are meals delivered to homebound seniors in Parlier?

The Fresno-Madera Area Agency on Aging runs a home-delivered meals program for homebound people 60 and older without family support. Call (559) 214-0299 to be screened.

Does CaregiverConnect screen the caregivers who apply?

No. Nobody's background is verified by us, so references and credentials are for you to check. A Parlier post is free to publish; Family Premium ($24.99 monthly) adds messaging and hiring.
