How to find an in-home caregiver in Clovis

Begin by posting, free, under 93611 or 93612, and describe the tasks, days and hours. Anyone whose travel range includes your street gets an alert and may apply; the profiles above update as people near Clovis join. Many applicants will come from Fresno, since the two cities share a long border along Willow Avenue, and some from Sanger or the county's eastern towns. Ask each one where they live and how long the drive takes at the hour you need them. Give details that change the job: a two-story house, a walker or wheelchair, a pet, whether your parent was recently discharged from Clovis Community Medical Center, and whether anyone else is home in the daytime. Among Clovis residents aged five and over, about one in eight speaks Spanish at home and 7.1% speak an Asian or Pacific Island language (ACS 2020–2024), so say which language your parent prefers.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Clovis

Three credentials can be checked in the Fresno area. Agency aides appear on the state Home Care Aide Registry, as does any independent who opts in. Fresno County IHSS providers pass an enrollment process and, for the Public Authority registry, a screening and introduction class. Certified nursing assistants hold a CDPH certificate, and Clovis Adult Education on David E. Cook Way trains many of them locally. Look the number up yourself. Then call two references, preferably a former private client and a care home or agency supervisor, interview with your parent present, and, with written consent, purchase a consumer background report. A paid trial shift or two shows more than any interview. Remember that CaregiverConnect performs no background screening, and its Verified badge signals nothing more than an uploaded document awaiting review.

Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Clovis: hourly rates and schedules

Clovis families commonly post weekday daytime hours while they work in Fresno, mornings for bathing and dressing followed by a senior center afternoon, overnight cover for a short stretch following a hospital stay, and Saturday or Sunday breaks for the spouse who carries most of the load. Families who use adult day health care in north Fresno often need a caregiver only for the hours before pickup and after drop-off.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

There is no Clovis wage ordinance, so the California figure of $16.90 applies. Fresno County's IHSS wage is $18.75 an hour, aides employed in the Fresno metro earn a $16.50 median, and California home care agencies charge a median of $40. Direct hires in Clovis usually fall between the IHSS and agency figures, higher when the caregiver drives your parent or covers nights. California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights adds overtime for a personal attendant you employ for any hours over nine in a day or over 45 in a week.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
