In-Home Caregivers in Huron, CA

In Huron the caregiver you hire will usually need Spanish, a way to get your relative to Coalinga or Fresno, and hours that work around the farm day. Posting costs nothing, and you choose and employ the caregiver yourself.

How to find an in-home caregiver in Huron

Start your post with the language your relative uses. The Census Bureau's 2020–2024 survey found Spanish in use at home for 92.2% of Huron residents aged five and up, which means a caregiver who can hold a whole day's conversation in Spanish is the norm rather than a bonus. Then describe the household. Huron homes are large (3.38 people on average) and only 123 of the town's 296 residents aged 65 and over live alone, so the help you need may be a few hours while everyone else is at work rather than full-time care. Be specific about transport: one Huron household in six has no car, and the clinics in town do not replace a hospital.

The caregivers best placed to reach you live in Huron itself or in Coalinga, the other end of the Huron Inter-City bus route. If nobody nearby has applied yet, raise the hourly offer slightly or add a mileage allowance; a caregiver driving from Coalinga makes two highway trips for every shift. This page refreshes its postings and profiles whenever someone publishes one.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Huron

The state health facility list shows no home health agency based in Huron, so you will usually be hiring an independent caregiver. The credentials you can check are a Home Care Aide Registry listing, which independent caregivers are not required to have, enrollment as a Fresno County IHSS provider, which includes a state background check, and a CNA certificate from CDPH; the closest CNA course is at Coalinga College. Hold the interview in your parent's own language, collect two references and call both, then try one paid shift together before fixing regular hours. CaregiverConnect performs no background checks and does not vet the people who apply; if you want one, you can buy a consumer background report after the caregiver agrees in writing.

Questions families here ask at interview

  • Mi mamá solo habla español. ¿Puede acompañarla todo el día en español?
  • If she needs Coalinga Regional Medical Center, would you drive her there yourself?
  • Would you go with her to United Health Centers on 13th Street and pick up her prescriptions from the pharmacy there?
  • Can you start at 6 a.m. during the season, before the rest of us leave for the fields?
  • Has anyone you cared for had diabetes or high blood pressure, and how did you handle their meals and pills?
  • Do you have a Fresno County IHSS provider number, or could you get one?
  • Could you walk with my father to the noon lunch on 5th Street on weekdays?
  • Tell me your hourly rate, and your price for a full day driving to Fresno.
Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Huron: hourly rates and schedules

Huron families tend to post blocks that cover the working day during the season, short daily visits for bathing and medicines, help on clinic days, and occasional full days when a trip to Fresno is needed. The Rural Transit bus to Fresno leaves Huron at 8:35 am and does not return until 5:18 pm, so a hospital visit in Fresno is a whole day for the caregiver as well. Overnight and live-in requests are less common.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Huron's median household income was $52,500 and its poverty rate 30.4%, so IHSS rather than private pay is how many families here cover care. If Medi-Cal covers your relative and the county authorizes hours, the provider you choose is paid $18.75 an hour by Fresno County. Families who hire privately usually pay near the $16.90 state minimum for companionship and more for personal care, nights or driving. Treat the $40 agency figure as a statewide benchmark, not a Huron price.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

Put the arrangement on paper (hours, duties, pay, overtime and the notice period for ending it), in both languages when that helps. Keep a simple timesheet, pay by check or transfer rather than cash, and keep bank cards and documents put away. Personal attendants qualify for overtime under California's domestic worker law, with thresholds of nine daily hours and 45 weekly hours. If something feels wrong, Fresno County's APS Careline answers at (559) 600-3383. For payroll steps and a sample agreement, open the hiring guide.
