Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Fresno
Most caregiving work in Fresno starts near one of a handful of addresses. Community Regional Medical Center anchors downtown on Fresno Street, Kaiser's hospital sits at 7300 North Fresno Street, the VA's main Central California campus is on East Clinton Avenue, and seven of the county's adult day health centers operate inside city limits, from North First Street to East Cesar Chavez Boulevard. A typical request comes from a household a few miles from one of them: a parent going home after a hospital stay, a veteran who needs help between VA appointments, or someone attending an adult day program who needs care before the van comes and after it leaves. The postings above update as Fresno families publish them, with each one's distance from the city.
Fresno is a driving city. In the 2020–2024 ACS, 72.1% of workers drove to work alone, only 1.2% used public transit, and the average one-way commute was 22.4 minutes, so families will assume you have a car unless you say otherwise. Tell them which parts of town you cover and whether appointment driving is something you offer. Languages carry weight here too: 42.7% of Fresno residents aged five-plus use a language besides English at home, including Spanish (29.2%), an Asian or Pacific Island language (7.6%) and another Indo-European language (4.9%). If you have cared for someone with dementia, diabetes or limited mobility, write it in plain words, since families with those needs look for it first.

Caregiver pay in Fresno: how much caregivers make
Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Fresno, CA metro (Fresno County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.
| Measure | Hourly | Source and coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Home health and personal care aides, Fresno, CA metro (Fresno County) | $16.50 median ($16.83 mean) | BLS OEWS, May 2025; 33,580 jobs; concentration 2.54× national |
| IHSS provider wage, Fresno County | $18.75 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Nursing assistants, Fresno, CA metro (Fresno County) | $21.50 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison) |
Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
The City of Fresno has not adopted its own minimum wage, per the July 2026 update of the Berkeley Labor Center's ordinance inventory, which means the California rate of $16.90 is the floor for private work. IHSS pays $18.75 an hour countywide from January 1, 2026, $1.85 above that floor, and the Fresno metro's nursing assistants earned a $21.50 median in May 2025. A typical Fresno household earns $70,991 (median) and one resident in five (20.1%) is below the federal poverty line per ACS 2020–2024, so many private-pay families here are budgeting carefully; price nights, weekends and dementia care above your weekday rate rather than raising everything. Count on overtime as well: California's domestic worker rules add half again for the hours past nine in a shift or past 45 in a week.

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Fresno
Working privately for a Fresno household doing non-medical work needs no state license, and paying $35 for a Home Care Aide Registry entry is your choice unless a licensed agency employs you. IHSS work runs through the Fresno County Department of Social Services: you finish the enrollment forms and orientation videos online, book a brief in-person appointment to present your ID and Social Security card, put your signature on the SOC 426 and SOC 846 and complete the Department of Justice fingerprint check. Once enrolled, the Public Authority registry is open to your application for referrals, and if you do not live with your client you clock in and out through the IHSS EVV app, the online portal or the telephone timesheet system. Hospital and nursing-home roles need CDPH certification. Report suspected abuse to the APS Careline, (559) 600-3383. Details for each route are in the requirements guide.
