Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Delhi
Delhi has no city government of its own, since it is a census-designated place; the U.S. Census Bureau's ACS 2020–2024 puts its population at 11,009 (margin of error ±999). It is younger than Merced County as a whole. The median resident is 30.0 years old, and only 7.6% of residents (836 people) are 65 or older, against 11.7% county-wide. Households are big, averaging 3.77 people, and 630 of the 2,918 households (21.6%) are home to a person 65 or older. Another 210 households are an older person living alone, the clients most likely to need someone from outside the family.
Those older residents also report more limits on daily life than the county average. ACS counts 51.6% of Delhi's residents aged 65 and up as having a disability, compared with 40.5% across Merced County. Language matters in nearly every home: Spanish is the home language of 67.0% of residents over age four, only 26.5% use English alone, and 21.5% speak Spanish and rate their English below "very well". Put Spanish at the top of your profile if you have it. Also say whether you drive, because 82.9% of Delhi workers drive alone to their jobs and ACS records no one commuting by public transit.

Types of caregiver jobs in Delhi
Because so few residents are old, paid care in Delhi tends to grow out of family arrangements. A grown child or other relative signs up as the IHSS provider for a parent with Medi-Cal, and private families add hours for bathing, meals, laundry, company and rides to appointments. With no nursing home, home health agency or assisted living home licensed in town, certified aides who want facility work commute out, and that is worth stating in your profile if you are willing.

Caregiver pay in Delhi: how much caregivers make
Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Merced, CA metro (all of Merced County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.
| Measure | Hourly | Source and coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Home health and personal care aides, Merced, CA metro (all of Merced County) | $16.50 median ($16.82 mean) | BLS OEWS, May 2025; 4,990 jobs; concentration 2.27× national |
| IHSS provider wage, Merced County | $17.50 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
About 10.7% of Delhi's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates. Merced County averaged 9.5% and California 5.3%. EDD builds figures for small places such as Delhi from county totals, so treat the local rate as approximate; it ranged from 9.2% to 11.9% month to month among roughly 4,908 people in the labor force. In that setting, an IHSS case is steady work: Merced County IHSS pays providers $17.50 an hour for every authorized hour.
UC Berkeley's inventory of local wage laws lists nothing for Delhi or anywhere in Merced County, which leaves California's $16.90 as the wage floor for private jobs; overtime for a personal attendant begins after the ninth hour of a workday or the 45th hour of a workweek. One detail is specific to Delhi: some of your clients may live in Turlock, which is in Stanislaus County. For a Turlock IHSS client, the CDSS table sets the rate at $18.75, effective July 1, 2026, because the wage follows the county where the recipient lives, not the provider.
How to enroll as a provider in Merced County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Merced County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.
How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Facility work requires a CDPH-issued CNA certificate, and anyone paid for care work must report suspected elder abuse. See the requirements guide for the long version.
