Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Turlock

Turlock clients sit within one city's bus and paratransit area, so a caregiver who lives here can often fit a split shift or two families into one day. Emanuel Medical Center on Delbon Avenue is the local hospital, so many requests follow a stay there, while families with bigger medical needs also deal with the Modesto hospitals to the north. Postings above update as Turlock households publish them, and a wider radius brings in Hughson and Keyes or, across the county line, Merced County towns such as Atwater.

The city's mix of languages is its own. ACS 2020–2024 counts 45.3% of Turlock residents over age four using a non-English language at home, more than the state share; Spanish accounts for 31.3%, and 7.3% speak an Indo-European language other than Spanish or English, against 4.9% statewide. Turlock has long had Assyrian and Portuguese communities, and families from them often look for a caregiver who shares the language. Put every language you speak in your profile, along with whether you drive, since the city's average commute is 26.2 minutes and clients often need rides.

Types of caregiver jobs in Turlock

Families here typically post weekday personal care and companionship for an older parent, help after a hospital stay, dementia supervision, rides to appointments in Turlock or Modesto, and weekend respite. If you study at Stan State, evening and weekend availability is worth stating clearly, because respite for a family caregiver is usually booked outside working hours. If you have no paid experience, start with companionship, errands, meals and light housekeeping.

Pay

Caregiver pay in Turlock: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Modesto, CA metro (Stanislaus County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

BLS reports Turlock's wages as part of the Modesto metro, which is all of Stanislaus County. There, May 2025 data show a $16.50 median and a $17.20 mean for home health and personal care aides, and a $22.38 median for nursing assistants. Turlock has not adopted its own minimum wage (it is absent from the Labor Center's ordinance inventory), so the state's $16.90 applies. IHSS providers in the city earn the county's $18.75 from July 1, 2026, a reasonable floor for private rates; the county aging office reports a $16 to $30 range for private in-home help. Ask for more for overnight, weekend or dementia work, and track overtime past 9 hours a day or 45 a week.

How to enroll as a provider in Stanislaus County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Stanislaus County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Turlock

Private, non-medical work for a Turlock family requires no license. If an agency employs you, it must place you on the state Home Care Aide Registry; independents can join for $35 for two years. Registry providers pay for their own background check, attend Link2Care's caregiver class and agree to weekend and holiday work and the full range of personal care. CNA certification through CDPH is needed for nursing assistant jobs at Emanuel or in skilled nursing. Elder or dependent adult abuse goes to Stanislaus County APS, (800) 336-4316. Questions

Caregiver jobs in Turlock: frequently asked questions

Can a Stan State student work as a caregiver in Turlock?

Yes. Private families set their own hours, so evening and weekend shifts fit around classes, and Turlock Transit carries college students free. For IHSS registry work you need the state orientation and Link2Care training first.

What is the IHSS wage for Turlock providers?

Do I have to go to Modesto to sign up for IHSS?

I speak Assyrian or Portuguese. Should I mention it?

Yes. Turlock has long-established Assyrian and Portuguese communities, and a family looking for a caregiver who speaks their parent's language will filter for it.
