Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Stanislaus County

Stanislaus County had 557,159 residents at the start of 2026, and two of every five live in Modesto. Most private caregiving work therefore starts in the county seat, then in Turlock and Ceres, with smaller pockets in Riverbank, Oakdale, Waterford and Hughson. The county's long-standing divide is the San Joaquin River. The West Side, which includes Patterson and Newman near Interstate 5, has grown as a bedroom community for Bay Area commuters, while places such as Westley and Crows Landing are still small farm towns. For a caregiver based in Modesto, a Newman client means crossing the river and is a very different commute from one in town.

Decide which part of the county you serve before you set a radius. If you live on the West Side, say so plainly in your profile: StanLink2Care, the IHSS registry, lists Oakdale, Patterson and Newman as the under-served areas it asks registry providers to cover. Families also read profiles for language. ACS 2020–2024 counts 43.0% of county residents aged five and over speaking a language other than English at home, Spanish for 34.1%, so list every language you can work in.

Types of caregiver jobs

Types of caregiver jobs in Stanislaus County

Pay

Caregiver pay in Stanislaus County: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Modesto, CA metro (Stanislaus County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, Modesto, CA metro (Stanislaus County)$16.50 median ($17.20 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 9,160 jobs; concentration 1.7× national
IHSS provider wage, Stanislaus County$18.75CDSS; effective July 1, 2026
California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026
Nursing assistants, Modesto, CA metro (Stanislaus County)$22.38 medianBLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison)

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

The Modesto metro and Stanislaus County are the same area, so the BLS figures describe this county alone: 9,160 aide jobs in home health and personal care, with a $16.50 median measured before the state minimum rose to $16.90 and a $17.20 mean. The county's IHSS rate went to $18.75 on July 1, 2026. Nursing assistants earn a $22.38 median, the clearest pay step for someone who finishes a CNA course. No city or the county itself appears in the UC Berkeley Labor Center's inventory of local minimum wage ordinances, so $16.90 is the floor for private employers everywhere from Oakdale to Newman. According to the county's in-home services page, privately paid help ranges from $16 to $30 hourly, with visits of three or four hours as a common minimum.

How to enroll as a provider in Stanislaus County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Stanislaus County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Stanislaus County

Families can engage you for non-medical help without any license on your part. Aides employed by a licensed home care agency must be on the Home Care Aide Registry, which independents may join voluntarily ($35, renewed every two years). IHSS work runs through the Community Services Agency: call (209) 558-2637 if a recipient has already chosen you, or StanLink2Care at (209) 558-1650 to join the registry. Registry providers attend the state orientation, complete Live Scan fingerprinting with a Department of Justice check at their own cost, take Link2Care's caregiver training even if they already hold a CNA, and agree to weekend and holiday work and full personal care. Hospital and nursing home roles call for CDPH certification, and suspected mistreatment of an older or dependent adult goes to the 24-hour APS line, (800) 336-4316. More detail: the requirements guide and our Stanislaus County IHSS guide.

Questions

Caregiver jobs in Stanislaus County: frequently asked questions

Which Stanislaus County cities have their own caregiver job page?

Modesto and Turlock. Caregivers in Ceres, Riverbank, Oakdale, Patterson, Newman, Waterford, Hughson and the rural communities use this county page and enter their own ZIP code.

How much does IHSS pay in Stanislaus County?

$18.75 an hour since July 1, 2026, according to the CDSS county wage table and StanLink2Care. Neighboring counties are compared in the IHSS pay table.

I live in Patterson or Newman. Is it worth joining the IHSS registry?

Link2Care asks every registry provider to be willing to work in Oakdale, Patterson or Newman, because those are the areas it finds hardest to cover. Living there already is a practical advantage when it matches recipients with providers.

Do I need a CNA to join the Link2Care registry?

No. A CNA or home health aide certificate does not replace the requirements either: everyone attends the state IHSS orientation and Link2Care's own caregiver training before being referred.

Which county schools teach nursing assistant or nursing courses?

Modesto Junior College runs a 16-week, CDPH-approved program with 100 clinical hours. Stanislaus State in Turlock offers nursing degrees for those aiming for RN work.

Where do county families post their care needs?

On the Stanislaus County families page, or on the Modesto and Turlock pages if they live in those cities.
