How to find an in-home caregiver in Delhi

Delhi, an unincorporated community in Merced County, has 11,009 residents in the Census Bureau's ACS 2020–2024 estimates, and 836 of them are 65 or older. That is 7.6% of the population, a smaller share than in the county overall, and most older people here live in large households (3.77 people on average). Even so, 210 households consist of a single person aged 65 or more. For those parents, a paid caregiver may be the only daily visitor, so say in your post how often someone in the family checks in.

Write the post in the language your parent uses. ACS counts 67.0% of Delhi residents over age four as Spanish speakers at home, and 21.5% speak Spanish and have limited English, so a bilingual caregiver is a reasonable request. Spell out whether the job includes driving: households here nearly all have a car, but no worker in the ACS sample took public transit to work, and the bus covers only one stop in town. Caregivers with profiles near 95315 appear first, and the list updates as new people join.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Delhi

Start with what can be checked. A CNA certificate is a public CDPH record. An IHSS provider has completed a Department of Justice Live Scan and a county orientation; ask whether they are on the Merced County Public Authority registry. CDSS's May 2025 licensing data has no home care agency based in Delhi, which means most applicants will be independent and probably not listed on the Home Care Aide Registry. Talk to two past employers or families by phone, interview with your parent present, and pay for a first shift while a relative is home. CaregiverConnect does not look into anyone's identity, background or record; if you want a background check, get the caregiver's written consent and order one yourself.

Questions families here ask at interview

  • ¿Habla español con fluidez? Can you talk with my mother's doctor in both languages?
  • Have you taken a client to the King Street health center, and do you know how its noon lunch closure affects appointments?
  • If my father is discharged from Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock, can you start the same week?
  • Do you have your own car, or would you ride the T bus to the Veterans Memorial Building stop?
  • Are you already a Merced County IHSS provider, and if not, would you sign up once my mother's hours are approved?
  • How do you help someone with a disability move safely between bed, chair and shower?
  • Who covers your shift if you get sick?
Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Delhi: hourly rates and schedules

Around family work hours. In many Delhi households the adults work full days, and ACS puts the average commute at nearly 26 minutes each way, so requests often cover weekday mornings through mid-afternoon. Clinic days. The King Street health center closes from noon to 1 p.m., so if your caregiver will take your parent to visits, note the time block in the post. After a hospital stay. Ask for longer days, or overnight cover, for the first week or two at home.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

UC Berkeley's ordinance inventory lists no local minimum wage for Delhi or Merced County, so $16.90 is the lowest you can legally pay, and hours past nine in a day, or past 45 in a week, are paid at 1.5 times the rate for a personal attendant on your payroll. For context, the employed aide median in the Merced metro is $16.50, Merced County IHSS pays $17.50, and agency home care in California has a 2025 CareScout median of $40 an hour. Delhi's median household income is $67,500 by ACS. If your parent has Medi-Cal, call the county's IHSS referral line, (209) 385-3105; approved hours are paid to the provider your parent chooses, which can be a relative.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

Questions

Hiring a caregiver in Delhi: frequently asked questions

Is there a senior center or senior lunch in Delhi?

Not on the county's lunch program list. Its Living Well Cafe sites include Livingston, at 420 Main Street, and Atwater, at 2550 Linden Avenue. Home-delivered meals go through the Area Agency on Aging, (209) 385-7550.

Where can my mother see a doctor in Delhi?

At Lumira Healthcare's King Street center, which offers medical, dental and behavioral health visits on weekdays. Its single phone line is 1-209-850-3500.

If my father moves in with us in Delhi, which IHSS rate applies?

The rate follows the county where the recipient lives. Once he lives in Delhi, Merced County's $17.50 applies, even if he used to live in Turlock, where Stanislaus pays $18.75.

Can a caregiver get my mother to appointments without a car?

Partly. Paratransit picks up anywhere in the county for approved riders, and seniors ride free. The T bus serves only the Veterans Memorial Building stop in Delhi, so a caregiver with a car is still the simpler option.

Are there assisted living homes in Delhi?

None for older adults, according to the CDSS licensing files of May 2025. Merced County's 21 licensed elder care homes are in Merced, Los Banos, Atwater, Livingston and Hilmar.

What does CaregiverConnect charge, and does it check caregivers?

Posting a request is free; messaging and hiring come with Family Premium at $24.99 a month. We run no background, identity or reference checks, so screening stays with your family.
