How to find an in-home caregiver in Keyes

Keyes is an unincorporated, census-designated community of about 5,600 people (ACS 2020–2024) northwest of the City of Turlock. It has a community services district for water, sewer and street lights, but no city hall, and the state licensing files checked in October 2026 show no home health agency, home care organization or residential care home in town. Most families hire a caregiver directly, either paying privately or through IHSS, which lets an eligible person choose the provider, including a relative.

Language matters more here than in most of the county. ACS counts 75.1% of Keyes residents five and older speaking a language other than English at home, almost all of them Spanish (71.0%). Write your post in Spanish and English if that suits your family, state the hours and tasks, and include ZIP 95328. Applicants are sorted by distance in the list above, which changes whenever new caregivers register.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Keyes

Ask every applicant which credential they hold and check it. CDPH's online lookup confirms nursing assistant and home health aide certificates, and the CDSS Home Care Aide Registry lists aides cleared to work for licensed agencies. Stanislaus County IHSS providers have been fingerprinted through Live Scan, and the StanLink2Care registry interviews each provider before referral. Speak to two references, in Spanish if that is easier, meet at the house so the applicant sees the layout, and pay for one trial shift. CaregiverConnect does not run background checks or verify caregivers. You can order a check yourself once the applicant agrees in writing.

  • My father lives with us; how would you share the work with family members who are home part of the day?

Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Keyes: hourly rates and schedules

About a quarter of Keyes households (26.1%) include someone 65 or older, and families with working adults often ask for weekday coverage while the family is at work, a few hours of help with bathing and meals, or a ride to an appointment in Ceres or Turlock. Other requests include extra help after a hospital discharge and weekend relief for the relative who does most of the caring.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Each caregiver sets a rate, and these benchmarks help you judge it. The legal floor is $16.90; Keyes is unincorporated, and the UC Berkeley Labor Center shows no local ordinance that would apply. Home health and personal care aides in the Modesto metro had a $16.50 median in May 2025. Stanislaus County IHSS pays $18.75 an hour since July 1, 2026, and CareScout puts agency home care in California at a $40 median. With ACS reporting 18.6% of Keyes residents 65 and older below the poverty line, IHSS is worth checking first: people who receive SSI/SSP meet its financial test, and the county helps with a Medi-Cal application during the home visit if your relative has none. Personal attendants are owed overtime after 9 hours a day or 45 a week.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
