Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Williams

The City of Williams describes itself as an agricultural community at the crossroads of Interstate 5 and State Route 20, 60 miles north of Sacramento. The county's history of the town places it ten miles west of Colusa, and records that it began as a railroad town site called Central before taking the name of William H. Williams, who sold off the lots. It became a general law city in 1920. Today it has 5,621 residents by the Department of Finance count for January 1, 2026.

What makes Williams different from the rest of the county, for a caregiver, is language and age. In ACS 2020–2024, 85.2% of residents are Hispanic or Latino; 70.9% of those aged five and over speak Spanish at home, and 26.0% have limited English. Half of all residents are younger than 30.4, and only 9.7% of residents are 65 or older. The older residents who are here, though, often need help: 51.4% of Williams residents 65 and over report a disability, a higher share than the county's 39.3%. Write your profile in Spanish and English, list the clinics you know, and say you will drive to Colusa for hospital visits and IHSS paperwork.

Types of caregiver jobs in Williams

Three kinds of work fit Williams. A family may need someone with an older parent during the hours working-age relatives are away at their jobs. IHSS pays whichever provider an approved client hires, for the hours the county authorizes. And Almond View Care Center on E Street hires certified nursing assistants for facility shifts. If you have no experience, companionship, meals and rides to the Williams Health Clinic are a fair place to start.

Pay

Caregiver pay in Williams: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the North Valley-Northern Mountains Region of California nonmetropolitan area (includes Colusa County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

About 22.0% of Williams's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates. That is well above the 12.8% average for Colusa County and the 5.3% for California. The census paints a mixed picture alongside it: a median household income of $90,761, and 24.0% of working residents employed in agriculture and related industries, work that rises and falls with the season. Caregiving does not follow the harvest, which is why an IHSS provider job in Colusa County, at $17.40 an hour, can be the steadiest paycheck a Williams household has. Because UC Berkeley's inventory lists no Williams wage ordinance, private work starts at California's $16.90. A CNA certificate from the adult school opens facility work, where the nonmetro median for nursing assistants is $22.66.

How to enroll as a provider in Colusa County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Colusa County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Williams

Williams follows California rules unchanged. No license is needed when a Williams family employs you for non-medical help; the Home Care Aide Registry applies only if a licensed agency employs you. For IHSS, the county's Social Services office and its Public Authority are in Colusa, ten miles east, and the Public Authority handles every enrollment step for providers: the enrollment and agreement forms, an orientation, an in-person ID check and a Department of Justice Live Scan. Facility jobs such as those at Almond View require a CDPH nurse assistant certificate, which the Colusa County Adult School in Williams prepares you for. State law makes you a mandated reporter of elder abuse, and county APS takes those calls on (530) 458-0280 day and night. Statewide rules are summarized in our California requirements guide.
