Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Colusa County

Colusa County is small and spread out. The Department of Finance counted 22,003 residents on January 1, 2026, and only about 12,200 of them live inside its two incorporated cities, Williams (5,621) and Colusa (6,597). The other 9,785 or so live in unincorporated places. The county lists ten communities on its own site: Arbuckle, College City, Colusa, Grand Island and Grimes, Leesville, Maxwell, Princeton, Sites, Stonyford and Williams. Its history page puts the county about 70 miles north of Sacramento and describes an economy built on agriculture.

For a caregiver, that layout means two things. First, you will almost certainly need a car. In ACS 2020–2024, 82.1% of the county's workers drove to work alone and 0.8% used public transportation; the average commute was 24.2 minutes. Second, a profile that lists the communities you will drive to does more work here than a profile that names one town. Spanish matters as much as mileage: Spanish is the home language of 51.4% of people five and older, and 20.9% speak Spanish with limited English. Bilingual caregivers should put both languages at the very top of a profile.

The communities of Colusa County

Colusa County's two cities and its unincorporated communities. Williams and Colusa have their own pages; elsewhere, search by the local ZIP code.

  • WilliamsA city of 5,621, home to the adult school's CNA program, the community college campus, the Williams Health Clinic and Almond View Care Center.
  • ColusaA city of 6,597 with Colusa Medical Center, the Social Services office that runs IHSS and APS, and the transit agency.

  • Maxwell, Princeton and GrimesSmall unincorporated towns on county transit's timed routes; expect fewer clients per trip and plan your day around driving.

Types of caregiver jobs

Types of caregiver jobs in Colusa County

The Public Authority's recruiting flyer lists the tasks IHSS caregivers in the county typically do: laundry, grocery shopping, cooking and meal preparation, housework, and going with the client to appointments. Private families may also want companionship for a parent living alone outside town and help after a stay at Colusa Medical Center. Without experience, begin with meals, errands and company and add bathing and transfers after training.

  • Senior caregiving: day-to-day help so an older adult can stay at home.
  • Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers.
  • Companion care: company, errands, appointments, light help.
  • Dementia care: routine-based support for memory loss.
  • Respite care: cover so a family caregiver can rest or work.
  • Live-in: room and board as part of the arrangement.
  • Overnight: supervision through the night.
  • Part-time and full-time: set by day and time block on your profile.
Pay

Caregiver pay in Colusa County: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the North Valley-Northern Mountains Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Colusa and nine other counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, North Valley-Northern Mountains Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Colusa and nine other counties)$16.50 median ($17.00 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 5,000 jobs; concentration 1.73× national
IHSS provider wage, Colusa County$17.40CDSS; effective January 1, 2026
California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026
Nursing assistants, North Valley-Northern Mountains Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Colusa and nine other counties)$22.66 medianBLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison)

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

BLS does not publish a wage table for Colusa County alone. It groups the county with Glenn, Lassen, Modoc, Nevada, Plumas, Sierra, Siskiyou, Tehama and Trinity in one nonmetropolitan area, where the 5,000 aides counted in this occupation had a $16.50 median and a $17.00 mean in May 2025. Nursing assistants there had a $22.66 median. Colusa County IHSS providers are paid $17.40 from January 1, 2026, fifty cents above the $16.90 state minimum, which applies everywhere in the county because UC Berkeley's ordinance inventory lists no local minimum wage here. Private families who employ you directly must pay time-and-a-half beyond nine hours in one day or 45 in one week.

EDD's sub-county estimates put Colusa County's unemployment at an average of 12.8% from August 2025 to August 2026, against 5.3% for California. About 22.0% of Williams's labor force and 13.6% of Colusa's were unemployed on average over the same months. With jobless rates that high, steady paid care for a relative or neighbor through IHSS in Colusa County is a dependable income in a farm-based economy.

How to enroll as a provider in Colusa County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Colusa County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Colusa County

You do not need a state license to provide non-medical care directly for a family. Registration on the state's $35 Home Care Aide Registry becomes compulsory only when you go to work for a licensed agency. Colusa County runs IHSS from the Social Services building at number 251 on East Webster Street in Colusa, phone (530) 458-0280, open weekdays 8:00 to 4:30. Since November 1, 2009, the county's IHSS Public Authority has handled new provider enrollment: the SOC 426 enrollment form, a mandatory orientation, the SOC 846 provider agreement, an original unexpired photo ID and Social Security card shown in person, and a Department of Justice Live Scan. Facility work at the county's nursing home or hospital generally calls for a CDPH nurse assistant certificate. Paid caregivers must report suspected abuse of elders and dependent adults under state law. More detail: California caregiver rules.
