Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Clearlake

The Department of Finance counted 16,642 people in Clearlake on January 1, 2026, roughly a quarter of the county and more than three times the population of Lakeport. The CDPH facility file lists, inside the city, Adventist Health Clearlake on 18th Avenue, Meadowood Nursing Center on Dexter Lane, two Adventist Health clinics on Lakeshore Drive, two Lake County Tribal Health clinics on Olympic Drive and Lakeshore Drive, and two women's health clinics on Olympic Drive. Living in the city keeps most visits and appointments close.

Clearlake's older clients differ from the county average. ACS 2020–2024 puts Clearlake's median age at 38.8, younger than the county's 44.1, and 17.1% of residents are 65 or older. Those older residents report more disability: 52.7% of Clearlake residents 65 and over, against 41.2% across the county. Incomes are lower too. The median household income is $41,867, and the poverty rate for people 65-plus, 19.8%, is about double the county's. Lower incomes make Medi-Cal, and with it IHSS, part of many care plans here, so a Clearlake caregiver who knows the IHSS process should say so in a profile.

Expect three kinds of work. IHSS cases, where a Clearlake recipient hires a relative, neighbor or registry provider for the hours the county approves. Private visits from families who live elsewhere and want a parent here checked on, fed and driven to appointments. And facility shifts: Meadowood Nursing Center is licensed for 99 beds and generally hires certified nursing assistants. Without experience, offer companionship, meals and errands first.

Pay

Caregiver pay in Clearlake: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the North Coast Region of California nonmetropolitan area (includes Lake County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, North Coast Region of California nonmetropolitan area (includes Lake County)$16.74 median ($17.16 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 10,140 jobs; concentration 3.34× national

Nursing assistants, North Coast Region of California nonmetropolitan area (includes Lake County)$23.12 medianBLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison)

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

About 9.8% of Clearlake's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates. That is above Lake County's 7.2% and California's 5.3%. The census adds context: 29.0% of employed Clearlake residents work in education, health care and social assistance, and 71.3% of tenant households give at least 35% of their income to rent. Care is needed in every month of the year, so an IHSS provider job paying the Lake County rate of $17.55 can be the most reliable income in a household; the Lake County IHSS guide walks through enrollment. UC Berkeley's inventory shows no Clearlake minimum wage ordinance, so private work starts at the state's $16.90. Nursing assistants in the North Coast nonmetro area had a $23.12 median in May 2025, which is the case for training as a CNA.

How to enroll as a provider in Lake County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Lake County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Clearlake

Clearlake follows state rules without local additions. A family that employs you directly for non-medical help needs no license from you, and the Home Care Aide Registry matters only for agency jobs. IHSS is run by Lake County Adult Services in Lower Lake, not by the city, and every enrollment step goes through that office: the online account and state videos, an in-person orientation (bring the actual Social Security card, not a copy, and photo ID), and fingerprinting. Meadowood and the hospital generally require a CDPH nurse assistant certificate for aide jobs. State law obliges you to report suspected harm to any elder or dependent adult you look after. The county-wide steps are on the Lake County page, and state rules in our California requirements guide.
