Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Lake County
Two in three Lake County residents have no city government. The Department of Finance counted 66,793 residents on January 1, 2026: 16,642 in Clearlake, 4,923 in Lakeport, and 45,228 in unincorporated communities. The county's Area Agency on Aging groups those communities by senior center, a useful map for a caregiver. Highlands in Clearlake covers Clearlake, Lower Lake, Clearlake Park and Twin Lakes; Lakeport's center covers Lakeport, Nice, Lucerne, Upper Lake and Kelseyville; Live Oak covers Clearlake Oaks and Glenhaven; Lucerne Alpine covers Lucerne and Nice; and Middletown's center covers Middletown, Hidden Valley and Cobb.
Two numbers explain why a caregiver is useful here. The county's median age in ACS 2020–2024 is 44.1, and 45.1% of its 26,940 households include someone 65 or older. And distance is real: the average commute is 32.4 minutes, 70.9% of workers drive alone, and only 0.7% take public transit. Name in your profile each community you can cover, and whether you would drive a client to Lakeport, Clearlake or an out-of-county specialist.

Caregiver pay in Lake County: how much caregivers make
Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the North Coast Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake and Mendocino counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.
| Measure | Hourly | Source and coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Home health and personal care aides, North Coast Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake and Mendocino counties) | $16.74 median ($17.16 mean) | BLS OEWS, May 2025; 10,140 jobs; concentration 3.34× national |
| IHSS provider wage, Lake County | $17.55 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Nursing assistants, North Coast Region of California nonmetropolitan area (Del Norte, Humboldt, Lake and Mendocino counties) | $23.12 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison) |
Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
For wage statistics, BLS folds Lake County into its North Coast nonmetro area alongside Del Norte, Humboldt and Mendocino. Across those four counties, the May 2025 survey counted 10,140 workers in this occupation, with pay at a $16.74 median and $17.16 mean; nursing assistants in the same area had a $23.12 median. Since January 1, 2026, Lake County IHSS has paid $17.55, or 65 cents over the $16.90 state minimum. That minimum is the floor for private work everywhere in the county, since UC Berkeley's inventory lists no local wage ordinance here, and a household that employs you itself pays time-and-a-half once your day tops nine hours or your week tops 45.
About 7.2% of Lake County's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates, compared with 5.3% for California. Clearlake's average was higher, at 9.8%. Where jobs are scarce, paid care for a relative or neighbor is steady income, and the Lake County IHSS guide explains how to become that provider.
How to enroll as a provider in Lake County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Lake County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.
How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.
Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Lake County
You need no state license to give non-medical help to a household that pays you itself; the $35 Home Care Aide Registry comes into play only with an agency job. IHSS is run by the county's Adult Services branch at 16170 Main Street in Lower Lake, (707) 995-4680. State law requires every IHSS provider to enroll and clear a background check before being paid: you enroll online, watch the state orientation videos, then attend an in-person orientation in Lower Lake bringing a photo ID plus the Social Security card itself, where fingerprinting is booked. Nursing home and hospital jobs generally require a CDPH nurse assistant certificate. California also counts paid caregivers among the people who must report suspected abuse of elders and dependent adults. More: California caregiver rules.

Caregiver jobs in Lake County: frequently asked questions
How much does IHSS pay in Lake County?
CDSS lists $17.55 an hour for Lake County providers from January 1, 2026. IHSS pay is set by the recipient's home county, so work for someone living in Sonoma or Napa County pays that county's wage instead.
Where is the Lake County IHSS office?
Adult Services runs IHSS from 16170 Main Street in Lower Lake, with a mailing address of P.O. Box 9000, Lower Lake. Call (707) 995-4680; the county also lists a toll-free line, (888) 221-2204.
What do I bring to IHSS provider orientation?
A current photo ID and your Social Security card, the original rather than a copy, with matching names. Without both, you must rebook.
Is there a CNA class in Lake County?
Yes. The Lake County Office of Education runs a three-month course in Lakeport with Monday-night theory and clinical shifts at Rocky Point Care Center. The fee is $1,500, and the spring 2027 cohort takes applications in fall 2026.
Can I get around Lake County for work without a car?
Partly. Lake Transit links the main towns, and in areas without Dial-A-Ride its buses will leave the route by up to a mile for a Flex Stop booked a day ahead. For homes away from the bus lines, plan on driving.
How do Lake County families reach me?
They post on the Lake County family page or a town page, and their requests show in the list above. Joining and applying are free, and we take no cut of what families pay you.
