Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Napa County
Napa County is essentially one valley, with its towns strung from American Canyon in the south through Napa and Yountville to St. Helena and Calistoga at the top. The Department of Finance counted 136,374 people in the county on January 1, 2026. The city of Napa holds 77,803 of them, so most private clients live there, but the older households are farther north: in the 2020–2024 American Community Survey, 50.8% of Yountville residents, 32.7% in St. Helena and 25.2% in Calistoga are 65 or older, against 21.1% countywide. A caregiver who lives in Napa and is willing to drive up valley reaches clients whom few applicants can serve.
Write your profile for that geography. Give your home ZIP code and say plainly how far north or south you will go: Napa to Calistoga is the full length of the valley, and American Canyon looks toward Vallejo as much as Napa. If you ride the bus, name the Vine routes you use. Spanish is the second language of the county; the ACS 2020–2024 counts 26.8% of county residents over age four using it at home, and in Calistoga the share is 42.9%. Bilingual? Put that near the top of the profile.

Caregiver pay in Napa County: how much caregivers make
Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Napa, CA metro (Napa County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.
| Measure | Hourly | Source and coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Home health and personal care aides, Napa, CA metro (Napa County) | $16.50 median ($19.48 mean) | BLS OEWS, May 2025; 2,900 jobs; concentration 1.35× national |
| IHSS provider wage, Napa County | $20.90 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Nursing assistants, Napa, CA metro (Napa County) | $24.21 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison) |
Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
The Napa metro is the county itself, so the federal figures here are local: 2,900 jobs for home health and personal care aides as of May 2025, a $16.50 median and a $19.48 mean. A mean three dollars above the median points to many jobs near the bottom and some well above it. IHSS is the steadier reference. The CDSS wage table puts Napa County IHSS at $20.90 from the first of January 2026. None of the five cities, Napa, American Canyon, Yountville, St. Helena or Calistoga, shows up in the ordinance list kept by UC Berkeley's Labor Center, which leaves California's $16.90 as the valley-wide floor. For a private client up valley, add the drive time to your rate. For comparison, the county's nursing assistants earned a $24.21 median.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.
Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Napa County
Valley families who take you on privately for bathing, meals or company are not required by the state to check for a license. Working for a licensed home care agency is different: agencies may employ only aides who have paid $35 for a two-year spot on the CDSS aide registry; joining is voluntary for independents. For IHSS, the county office and the Public Authority share 650 Imperial Way, Suite 101, in Napa. You create an account on the state enrollment site, watch the required videos, book an orientation slot, and arrive with valid government photo identification and the original Social Security card; the Live Scan request form is handed out there. A conviction in the past ten years can rule you out. Registry providers also sign an agreement and complete a training with Public Authority staff. Nursing facility work needs CDPH certification. You are a mandated reporter: reach Napa APS at 707-253-4398 during office hours, or 888-619-6913 after 5 p.m. and on weekends. Read the Napa County IHSS guide; statewide rules sit in California caregiver requirements.
