Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Solano County

Solano County works as a chain of cities more than a single market. The SolanoExpress buses that tie it together run between Vallejo, Benicia, Fairfield, Vacaville, Dixon and on to Davis. Three cities hold most of the 452,050 people the Department of Finance counted on January 1, 2026: Vallejo, Fairfield and Vacaville, each above 100,000. The county averages a 31-minute commute already, so it pays to choose a home end of the county, take clients near it, and accept a longer drive only when the hours justify it.

So build the profile around geography. Name the city and ZIP code you start from, how far you will go, and whether you have your own car; the county IHSS Public Authority makes a car a requirement for its registry because providers drive clients to appointments and errands. Bus service exists but is split by city, with SolTrans in Vallejo and Benicia and separate systems further up the freeway. Put languages near the top too: of Solano residents past their fifth birthday, 31.5% use a language besides English in the home and 18.2% use Spanish (ACS 2020–2024).

Types of caregiver jobs

Types of caregiver jobs in Solano County

Requests in the county tend to cover personal care and cooking for an older relative on their own, rides to clinic and hospital appointments in Vallejo, Fairfield or Vacaville, cover in the weeks after a discharge, and longer days with someone living with dementia. If you are new to paid care, apply first for companionship, shopping, housekeeping and meal preparation. The IHSS registry also names skills it would like but does not require, such as a CNA or home health aide certificate, First Aid and CPR, and experience with transfers, so those are sensible next steps.

  • Senior caregiving: day-to-day help so an older adult can stay at home.
  • Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers.
  • Companion care: company, errands, appointments, light help.
  • Dementia care: routine-based support for memory loss.
  • Respite care: cover so a family caregiver can rest or work.
  • Live-in: room and board as part of the arrangement.
  • Overnight: supervision through the night.
  • Part-time and full-time: set by day and time block on your profile.
Pay

Caregiver pay in Solano County: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Vallejo, CA metro (Solano County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, Vallejo, CA metro (Solano County)$16.50 median ($17.89 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 7,850 jobs; concentration 1.97× national
IHSS provider wage, Solano County$18.10CDSS; effective January 1, 2026
California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026
Nursing assistants, Vallejo, CA metro (Solano County)$23.51 medianBLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison)

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

The BLS Vallejo metro is the whole of Solano County, so these figures describe the county directly: 7,850 aides on payrolls as of May 2025, with a $16.50 median wage and a $17.89 mean. With a location quotient of 1.97, the county employs aides at close to double the national rate relative to its workforce. The median sits below the $16.90 state minimum because the survey predates January 2026, so treat it as dated. IHSS is the steadier benchmark: CDSS lists $18.10 for Solano, and the Public Authority adds a differential to $20.10 an hour for emergency backup providers on its registry. UC Berkeley's Labor Center, in its list of city and county wage laws, includes no Solano city, which leaves $16.90 as the floor in every part of the county. Nursing assistants in the metro had a $23.51 median, which is the gap a CNA certificate can open.

How to enroll as a provider in Solano County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Solano County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.
