Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Benicia

In Benicia, paid care is mostly done in private homes; the list of licensed facilities is short. Search CDPH's October 16, 2026 facility file for 94510 and you find no hospital, nursing home, hospice or home health license; the licensed health sites in town are a dialysis center on First Street and a surgery center on East Fifth Street. State licensing records dated May 25, 2025 show five licensed elder care homes in Benicia, 27 beds in all, plus two small adult residential homes, and not one licensed home care organization. Pace Solano, a nonprofit that serves adults with disabilities, holds a license for a 35-person adult day program on Military East, which is worth a call if you have direct-support experience.

That leaves households as the main employer. In ACS 2020–2024, 4,654 of Benicia's 11,051 households (42.1%) include a person past 65, and roughly 1,929 older residents living alone, 1,561 of them women. Many family members commute: two in three Benicia workers (66.3%) drive alone, average trip 28.7 minutes, and only 1.8% take transit. Build your profile around 94510, the hours you can cover while relatives are at work, and whether you can drive a client in your own car. Filipino residents are 5.5% of the city and Spanish is a home language for 7.5% of those five and older; list Tagalog or Spanish early if you have it.

If you have no paid experience, offer errands, cooking and conversation first, and ask the care homes listed with the state whether they hire trainees.

Pay

Caregiver pay in Benicia: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Vallejo, CA metro (Solano County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage

IHSS provider wage, Solano County$18.10CDSS; effective January 1, 2026

Nursing assistants, Vallejo, CA metro (Solano County)$23.51 medianBLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison)

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

About 4.1% of Benicia's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates; Solano County averaged 5.2% and California 5.3%. Over those months Benicia's rate ranged from 3.4% to 4.9%, in a labor force of about 13,200. Solano IHSS providers earn $18.10 an hour, and registry members sent out as emergency backups earn $20.10; the Solano IHSS guide explains how to enroll.

Because BLS draws the Vallejo metro around Solano County alone, its aide figures ($16.50 median, $17.89 mean) fit Benicia better than a multi-county figure would. With no Benicia entry in UC Berkeley's ordinance inventory, Benicia employers pay at least the $16.90 state minimum. Take an IHSS client in Martinez and Contra Costa's $20.03 applies instead, as the client's county sets the rate. For private work, ACS reports a Benicia median household income of $121,204 and a median home value of $810,000. Charge more for lifting, dementia care or driving, and if a Benicia family pays you directly as its personal attendant, state law adds a 50% premium to each hour past nine that day, and to weekly hours above 45.

How to enroll as a provider in Solano County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Solano County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Benicia

Helping a Benicia household with non-medical care does not require a state license. Because no home care organization is licensed in the city, an agency job here usually means working for one based elsewhere, and the agency is required to register each aide it employs with California (CDSS sets the Home Care Aide fee at $35). The Solano County IHSS Public Authority, 275 Beck Avenue in Fairfield, (707) 784-8200, recruits registry providers who can use their own car to take clients to appointments, are willing to help with personal care including bowel and bladder care, and can pass a criminal background check; it asks for two work references. CNA or home health aide certificates are welcome but not required. Under Welfare and Institutions Code §15630 you must report suspected abuse; Solano APS takes calls at 707-784-8259 x 2 and after hours at 800-850-0012. More in our California requirements guide.
