Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Yolo County

You could reach most of Yolo from a single home base, yet its three cities pull in different directions. Woodland, the county seat, holds the county IHSS office, the Public Authority and Woodland Memorial Hospital, all within a few blocks of Cottonwood Street. Davis is a university town on Interstate 80, and West Sacramento sits directly across the river from downtown Sacramento, so many caregivers living there also take work on the Sacramento side. West of Woodland the county turns rural: Esparto, Capay and the Capay Valley on Highway 16, Winters at the foot of the hills, and Clarksburg and the delta farmland to the south. A useful profile names your home town, the cities you will drive to on a normal day, and whether a farmhouse 20 minutes off the highway is realistic.

Plan for a car. In the ACS 2020–2024 estimates, 61.7% of Yolo workers drove alone and just 2.8% used public transportation, while 18.1% worked from home. Spanish is the main second language: 21.3% of Yolo residents aged five or older use it at home, and 36.3% speak some language other than English. Bilingual applicants should put that language at the very top of their profile.

Types of caregiver jobs

Types of caregiver jobs in Yolo County

The county IHSS page lists the everyday tasks behind most requests here: bathing, dressing, grooming, feeding, bowel and bladder care, help with walking and transfers, cooking, laundry, housecleaning, errands, and going along to medical appointments. Some households also need someone to watch over a person with memory loss so they do not come to harm. If you are new to the work, housekeeping, meals, errands and companionship are where most people begin; transfers and personal care come with experience or a nursing assistant course.

  • Senior caregiving: day-to-day help so an older adult can stay at home.
  • Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers.
  • Companion care: company, errands, appointments, light help.
  • Dementia care: routine-based support for memory loss.
  • Respite care: cover so a family caregiver can rest or work.
  • Live-in: room and board as part of the arrangement.
  • Overnight: supervision through the night.
  • Part-time and full-time: set by day and time block on your profile.
Pay

Caregiver pay in Yolo County: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Sacramento–Roseville–Folsom, CA metro (includes Yolo County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, Sacramento–Roseville–Folsom, CA metro (includes Yolo County)$16.50 median ($17.20 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 60,350 jobs; concentration 2.02× national
IHSS provider wage, Yolo County$19.05CDSS; effective January 1, 2026
California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

BLS counts Yolo inside the four-county Sacramento–Roseville–Folsom metro, where 60,350 people held home health or personal care aide jobs in May 2025; the midpoint wage was $16.50 with $17.20 as the mean; a location quotient of 2.02 means these jobs make up about twice the national share of local employment. Yolo County IHSS pays $19.05 an hour from January 1, 2026, more than two dollars above that median, and the Public Authority adds a $2.00 hourly differential for approved back-up hours. Not one Yolo city shows up in the Labor Center at UC Berkeley's tracker of city and county wage laws, so Woodland, Davis, West Sacramento, Winters and the unincorporated towns all follow the $16.90 state floor. Treat that as the legal minimum for private work, not the going rate: IHSS sets a higher local benchmark that families who pay privately are competing with.

How to enroll as a provider in Yolo County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Yolo County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Yolo County

Families who pay you themselves for help that is not medical do not need you to be licensed by the state. Agency employment differs: a licensed home care agency has to enter you on California's Home Care Aide Registry, a $35 listing. IHSS has its own path: the county office at 25 North Cottonwood Street in Woodland (intake (530) 661-2955) and a West Sacramento office at 500 A Jefferson Blvd handle recipients, while the Yolo County IHSS Public Authority at the same Woodland address, (530) 661-2676, helps new providers through the online orientation and enrollment, a Department of Justice Live Scan that you pay for, and an in-person appointment with your ID and original Social Security card. Hospital and skilled nursing jobs call for CDPH nurse assistant certification. All caregivers are mandated reporters; Yolo County APS takes reports around the clock. The area

Yolo County in numbers

The Department of Finance counted 225,904 residents on January 1, 2026: 66,002 in Davis, 61,324 in Woodland and 55,871 in West Sacramento, with the rest in Winters and the unincorporated county. Yolo is young on paper, with a median age of 32.1 in ACS 2020–2024, because of the university. The older population is still substantial: 29,712 residents (13.5%) are 65 or older, 3,351 have reached 85, 34.1% of people 65 and over report a disability, and 27.9% of households include someone 65 or older. Renters pay a median $1,857 in gross rent, and 51.4% of renting households spend 35% or more of income on rent, which explains why many caregivers commute in from cheaper towns.

Two hospitals sit inside the county, per HCAI: Woodland Memorial Hospital on Cottonwood Street (105 licensed beds) and Sutter Davis Hospital (57). Many Yolo patients are also treated in Sacramento; Yolobus lists UC Davis Medical Center as a stop. For Woodland detail see the Woodland caregiver page; neighboring markets are on the Sacramento County and Solano County pages.
