Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Napa

The Department of Finance put the city of Napa at 77,803 residents on January 1, 2026, more than half the county. In the 2020–2024 ACS, 14,802 residents are 65 or older (18.9%), 1,795 are past 85, and 4,042 households consist of one person aged 65-plus living alone. People living alone at that age are often the ones who need a few hours of help a day to stay in their homes. Requests with the city's two ZIP codes, 94558 and 94559, appear above whenever families post them.

Napa is a driving town: 94.6% of households own at least one vehicle, and only 0.7% of Napa workers take public transit to their jobs. Families will expect you to reach the house on your own and often to take a parent to appointments, so mention in the profile if you own a car and which parts of town you can reach quickly. If you use the bus, Vine routes leave from the Soscol Gateway Transit Center downtown. Spanish is spoken at home by 30.9% of residents five and older, and 41.2% of Napans are Hispanic or Latino, so Spanish skills are worth a line near the top of your profile.

Types of caregiver jobs in Napa

Typical Napa requests: a morning routine and lunch for a widowed parent, rides to Queen of the Valley or the pharmacy, a few nights of cover after a hospital stay, weekend relief for an adult child, and company for someone in the early stages of dementia. Newcomers can offer company, cooking, shopping and housework first; the city's Senior Center lists activities you could join a client for. Families usually keep bathing and transfers for applicants who have done them before.

Pay

Caregiver pay in Napa: how much caregivers make

Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Napa, CA metro (Napa County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

MeasureHourlySource and coverage
Home health and personal care aides, Napa, CA metro (Napa County)$16.50 median ($19.48 mean)BLS OEWS, May 2025; 2,900 jobs; concentration 1.35× national
IHSS provider wage, Napa County$20.90CDSS; effective January 1, 2026
California minimum wage$16.90effective January 1, 2026
Nursing assistants, Napa, CA metro (Napa County)$24.21 medianBLS OEWS, May 2025 (certified roles, for comparison)

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Napa never passed a local wage law; the city is absent from the ordinance list UC Berkeley's Labor Center maintains, and California's $16.90 rate stays in force. For the metro, which is all of Napa County, BLS counted 2,900 aide positions (home health and personal care) in May 2025, with an hourly median of $16.50 and a mean of $19.48, so at least half of those jobs paid $16.50 or less. IHSS pays providers $20.90 from January 1, 2026, which is a fair floor to quote a private family for hands-on care. The metro's nursing assistants were paid a $24.21 median, a step up if you later move into facility work.

How to enroll as a provider in Napa County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Napa County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.

How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.

Rules

Caregiver requirements in California, applied to Napa

Napa households that arrange non-medical help with you themselves do not need you to be licensed. Agency jobs are the exception: a licensed home care agency can place you with clients only after your name is entered in the state aide registry, which costs $35 and lasts two years. To become an IHSS provider you deal with the county office at 650 Imperial Way, Suite 101 (707-253-3818). The steps are an online account on the state enrollment site, the mandatory videos, an orientation appointment (carry the original of your Social Security card plus a picture ID), and fingerprinting by Live Scan using the form issued there. Regular providers work for a specific recipient and are not referred out; registry providers also take Public Authority training so they can be referred to new clients. A job in a hospital or skilled nursing facility calls for CDPH certification. Suspected abuse goes to Napa APS, 707-253-4398. Details: Napa County IHSS guide, California requirements.

Questions

Caregiver jobs in Napa: frequently asked questions

Does Napa set its own minimum wage?

No. Caregivers employed in Napa fall under California's $16.90 hourly minimum, in effect from January 1, 2026; the Labor Center's list of city ordinances has no Napa entry.

How much do IHSS providers earn in Napa?

Since January 1, 2026 the county's IHSS rate has been $20.90 an hour. The IHSS office on Imperial Way answers questions at 707-253-3818.

Your original Social Security card and a valid government-issued photo ID. You will be given the Live Scan form there to start the fingerprint background check.

Can a conviction stop me from becoming an IHSS provider?

It can. The county warns that a conviction, or incarceration following one, in the past ten years may keep you from being a paid provider; its provider page links to the list of exclusionary crimes.

Yes, but fewer families will choose you. Name the Vine routes you can use and the neighborhoods they reach, and look for clients near the downtown transit center.
