How to find an in-home caregiver in Napa
Napa holds more than half the people in Napa County, 77,803 on January 1, 2026 (DOF E-1), so a post with a Napa ZIP code sits in the population center of the valley. You hire the person yourself: you write the post, read the profiles, message the people you like and agree on pay and hours with them. No agency sits between you as employer of record, so the checking falls to you.
Think about language and transport before you post. Three in ten Napa residents five and older (30.9%) speak Spanish at home, and 34.7% speak some language other than English (ACS 2020–2024); if your father would rather speak Spanish, say so in the first line. Few Napans ride the bus to work, so most applicants will drive; mention parking and whether you want them to take your parent to appointments in their own car. Profiles shown here are ordered nearest-first and the pool grows as people join; use your parent's ZIP code rather than yours.

Evaluating caregivers in Napa
Napa caregivers can hold several credentials, each meaning something different. An enrolled IHSS provider has sat through the county orientation on Imperial Way, shown original identity papers there, and been fingerprinted through Live Scan. A Public Authority registry provider has also completed extra training with county staff. If an agency is the employer, the aide must hold a current state registry listing as a home care aide; independents are free to skip it. Nursing assistants are certified by CDPH. Whatever the credential, ring at least two earlier employers, sit your parent beside you when you meet the applicant, and start with one paid trial day. CaregiverConnect itself performs no screening and vouches for nobody, so a background report, with the applicant's written consent, is a step you take yourself.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
With no city wage ordinance on the books (UC Berkeley's Labor Center lists none for Napa), California's $16.90 is the floor. Napa metro aides were paid a $16.50 median (mean $19.48) in the May 2025 survey, the county pays IHSS providers $20.90, and CareScout's statewide agency median is $40 an hour for non-medical care. Hiring directly usually costs somewhere between the IHSS and agency figures. Before you budget private hours, check whether your parent qualifies for IHSS; Medi-Cal members who are aged, blind or disabled may apply. California's domestic worker law adds overtime for a personal attendant for any hours over nine on a workday, or over 45 across the week.
No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

Hiring a caregiver in Napa: frequently asked questions
Mom lives in Napa and is on Medi-Cal. How does she get IHSS?
Ring the Imperial Way office, 707-253-3818, to request an assessment. The program is for low-income residents who are aged, blind or disabled and at risk of moving out of their home; it pays a provider your parent chooses and supervises.
My mother needs care. Could IHSS pay me as her caregiver?
Yes, once the county approves her hours she may choose you as her provider. You would enroll as a regular provider, which means you work only for her and are not referred to other recipients.
My father cannot be alone during my workday. What daytime options exist in Napa?
Two options in town: the Napa Senior Center on Jefferson Street for activities and lunch if he is independent, and, if he needs supervision or nursing, the adult day health program at 414 S. Jefferson.
What does a private caregiver cost in Napa?
No one sets the price; you agree it with the caregiver. Compare against three anchors: California's $16.90 minimum, Napa's $20.90 IHSS rate and CareScout's $40 agency median.
Does CaregiverConnect vet the people who apply?
No. Publishing a Napa request is free. To message Napa applicants and record a hire, switch on the $24.99 monthly Family Premium plan. Checking references, interviewing and any background report stay with you.
My mother's caregiver may be exploiting her. What should I do?
Napa County Adult Protective Services: 707-253-4398 on weekdays, 888-619-6913 at night and weekends. Call 911 if she is in immediate danger.
