How to find an in-home caregiver in Fairfield
Start with a free posting: your ZIP code (94533 or 94534), what help is needed, which days and what times. Caregivers whose travel radius includes your address can see it and apply, and caregivers who give Fairfield as their base are shown above as their profiles go live. People who apply could be driving from Suisun City, Vacaville, Vallejo or further along I-80, because Fairfield workers already average a 30.7-minute commute (ACS 2020–2024); find out which town each applicant leaves from and how long that drive runs at your start time.
Write the posting for someone who has never met your parent. Mention whether they use a walker or wheelchair, need help in the shower, see doctors at NorthBay Medical Center on B. Gale Wilson Boulevard, and whether they live alone; in Fairfield 3,496 households are a single person aged 65 or older. More than a third of residents speak a language other than English at home, mostly Spanish, so if your parent is more comfortable in Spanish, Tagalog or another language, say so and ask applicants to list theirs. With 2,263 residents in the armed forces and many others commuting out of town, family helpers are not always on hand, so spell out how fixed the hours are and who to call if plans change.

Types of in-home care families in Fairfield arrange
All non-medical. For nursing tasks (injections, wound care, catheters) you need a licensed home health agency, not a private caregiver.
Senior care at home · Personal care · Companion care · Dementia care · Respite care · Overnight and live-in · Post-surgery recovery · Part-time and flexible
Evaluating caregivers in Fairfield
Ask for proof of anything an applicant claims and check it yourself. CDSS keeps a lookup for Home Care Aide registrations; agencies must register their aides, independent caregivers may choose to. An IHSS provider in Solano County has completed the Public Authority's enrollment, including an orientation and a background check, and registry providers also had two work references checked. A Certified Nursing Assistant can be verified with CDPH. Then call two former clients, invite your parent to the interview, ask the applicant to consent to a consumer background report, and agree a paid trial week. Nobody at CaregiverConnect vets applicants or runs background checks; the Verified badge just records that we received a document.
Questions families here ask at interview
- Which town do you commute from, and what time would you leave to reach us in Fairfield by 7:30?
- Describe a client you looked after once NorthBay Medical Center sent them home: what did those first days need?
- Can you give me your Home Care Aide number or tell me when you enrolled with Solano IHSS?
- Would you be comfortable driving my mother in her car, or would you rather we book FAST Connect ADA?
- How have you handled a client with dementia who became upset in the late afternoon?
- Which languages do you speak, and could you talk with my father in Spanish?
- What rate do you charge for weekdays, and what changes for nights, weekends or holidays?
What in-home care costs in Fairfield: hourly rates and schedules
Fairfield families most often post weekday mornings for bathing, breakfast and medications, a few afternoons a week for company, meals and errands, a run of overnights once a parent is discharged, and weekend shifts so a working son or daughter can rest. If your parent is 60 or older, Solano Mobility's medical trip service can handle some appointment rides, which may shorten the hours you pay a caregiver for.
| Reference point | Hourly | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Employed aides, Vallejo metro (Solano County) | $16.50 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 |
| IHSS provider wage, Solano County | $18.10 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Agency non-medical home care, California median (CareScout 2025) | $40.00 | CareScout Cost of Care Survey 2025 |
Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
Fairfield has no local minimum wage above the state's $16.90. Solano County pays IHSS providers $18.10 an hour from January 1, 2026; aides on payroll in the Vallejo metro earned a median of $16.50 and a mean of $17.89 in May 2025; and CareScout puts the California median for agency home care at $40 an hour. Hiring privately usually lands between the IHSS and agency figures, higher for nights, dementia care or driving. A personal attendant earns overtime after nine hours in a day or 45 in a week, and paying one household worker $3,000 or more in 2026 makes you responsible for Social Security and Medicare taxes.
No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
