How to find an in-home caregiver in Vallejo

Three kinds of help cover most requests: someone for the first weeks after a hospital or rehab stay, a few hours a day for a parent who lives alone, or longer cover for dementia. The ACS finds 4,476 Vallejo homes with one occupant aged 65-plus, and a disability among 33.7% of the city's older residents. Put the type of help, the hours and your relative's ZIP code (94589, 94590 or 94591) in the post so the right people answer it.

Language is worth stating up front. In two of every five Vallejo homes (39.6% of residents aged five and up) a language besides English is spoken, Spanish by 19.9% (ACS 2020–2024). Mention transport too: 6.7% of households in the city have no car, so if your parent depends on buses or paratransit, say whether you need a caregiver who drives. Caregivers on this page are listed closest first to the ZIP code given, and the list grows as people register.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Vallejo

Ask each candidate which credentials they hold, then confirm them. Solano IHSS providers have enrolled with the county, attended its orientation and passed a background check; registry members have, in addition, been interviewed by the Public Authority, which also called their references. A nursing assistant certified by CDPH has passed a state-approved course, and anyone placed by a licensed agency is on the state aide registry. Ask about experience with the discharge instructions your relative brings home from Kaiser or Sutter, call two references, and arrange a short paid trial shift with your relative present. Screening is your job: CaregiverConnect checks neither backgrounds nor references.

Questions families here ask at interview

  • Describe a past client sent home from Kaiser Vallejo or Sutter Solano. What did those first weeks look like?
  • Do you live in Vallejo, and which part of the city can you reach easily?
  • Do you drive, or would you ride SolTrans or paratransit with my mother?
  • Are you a Solano IHSS provider, on the county registry, or a certified nursing assistant?
  • Can you follow my father's conversation in Spanish, or in the language he speaks at home?
  • How would you handle a fall or sudden confusion when you are alone with my parent?
  • Would you be willing to take my mother to activities at the Florence Douglas Center?

For wandering, night-time confusion or a high fall risk.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

A Vallejo rate starts at $16.90, the state floor, because the city sets no higher wage (UC Berkeley Labor Center). Solano IHSS pays providers $18.10, aides across the metro earned a $16.50 median in the May 2025 survey taken before the latest raise, and agencies statewide charge a $40 median per CareScout. A direct hire typically costs less than an agency but more than the IHSS rate, especially for overnights or dementia care. For a relative on Medi-Cal, start an IHSS application on (707) 784-8259, extension 1; an approved client can still add privately paid hours. California requires overtime pay for a personal attendant once daily hours pass 9 or weekly hours pass 45.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

Questions

Hiring a caregiver in Vallejo: frequently asked questions

My father is leaving Kaiser Vallejo next week. How fast can we find help?

Post today with his ZIP code, the date he comes home and the hours you need; caregivers nearby can reply as soon as it is live. If he has Medi-Cal, start an IHSS application at the same time, since the county allows up to 90 days to process it.

Is there a senior center in Vallejo?

Yes, the Florence Douglas Center at 333 Amador Street, a nonprofit in a city-owned building that runs more than 60 regular programs for seniors. Call 707-643-1044 for the newsletter and class list.

Can a caregiver ride paratransit with my mother?

SolTrans runs ADA paratransit in Vallejo and Benicia once a rider is certified eligible; book the eligibility appointment on (707) 541-7184 and ask about rules for a companion or attendant.

What hourly rate is fair for a Vallejo caregiver?

No less than $16.90 an hour, the state minimum, which is also the Vallejo floor. Many families use the $18.10 Solano IHSS rate as a reference and pay more for experience, overnights or dementia care.

Are Vallejo caregivers on CaregiverConnect screened?

Not by us. Nobody on the platform is vetted, so read profiles carefully, call references and arrange any background check yourself with the caregiver's consent. Posting is free; Family Premium costs $24.99 a month.

Will Solano County suggest IHSS providers near Vallejo?

Once your relative is approved for IHSS, the Public Authority registry can send a list of available providers in your area and, in an emergency, a backup provider within 72 hours.
