Finding in-home caregiver jobs in El Dorado County
The county describes itself in two zones, and a caregiver should plan a search the same way. The Lake Tahoe basin in the northeast corner, around South Lake Tahoe and Meyers, has its own hospital, senior center, IHSS orientation sessions and transit system; the western slope, everything west of Echo Summit, runs from the Folsom Lake shoreline through El Dorado Hills, Cameron Park, Shingle Springs, Diamond Springs and Placerville to Pollock Pines. Very few people commute between the two in a working day, so pick one side and say so in your profile. On the western slope, list the communities you can reach without a long mountain drive and whether you will take clients on rural roads around Georgetown, Coloma or Grizzly Flats.
Driving is the norm here. In the ACS 2020–2024 estimates, 65.9% of county workers drove to work alone and just 0.5% used public transportation, with an average one-way trip of 28.6 minutes. Without a car, base yourself where El Dorado Transit runs: local routes in Placerville, Diamond Springs, Cameron Park and Pollock Pines, the 50 Express to Folsom, and the EDT GO on-demand vans in El Dorado Hills and Cameron Park/Shingle Springs.

Types of caregiver jobs in El Dorado County
An older county produces a familiar set of requests: help with bathing, meals and medication reminders for someone living alone, rides to appointments in Placerville or Folsom, overnight cover after a stay at Marshall Medical Center or Barton Memorial Hospital, and dementia support, which the county's own caregiver training program treats as its first topic. Errands, light housekeeping and companionship are where newcomers usually start; transfers and memory care go to experienced applicants.

- Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, transfers.
- Companion care: company, errands, appointments, light help.
- Dementia care: routine-based support for memory loss.
- Respite care: cover so a family caregiver can rest or work.

Caregiver pay in El Dorado County: how much caregivers make
Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Sacramento–Roseville–Folsom, CA metro (Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado and Yolo counties); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.
| Measure | Hourly | Source and coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Home health and personal care aides, Sacramento–Roseville–Folsom, CA metro (Sacramento, Placer, El Dorado and Yolo counties) | $16.50 median ($17.20 mean) | BLS OEWS, May 2025; 60,350 jobs; concentration 2.02× national |
| IHSS provider wage, El Dorado County | $17.40 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
El Dorado County is grouped by the BLS with Sacramento, Placer and Yolo, and in that four-county metro the BLS counted 60,350 aide jobs in May 2025, paying a $16.50 median and a $17.20 mean, with a 2.02 location quotient: proportionally, about twice the national concentration. The county's IHSS wage is $17.40 from January 1, 2026, the lowest of the four metro counties in the CDSS table, below Sacramento ($19.15) and Placer ($19.38). That gap matters if you live near the county line, because the table sets pay by county. UC Berkeley's local wage tracker shows no ordinance for Placerville, South Lake Tahoe or El Dorado County, which leaves the $16.90 state rate in force countywide. With a 46.1 median age and a $108,845 median household income across the county, private households can often pay above both floors for reliable, experienced help.

Caregiver jobs in El Dorado County: frequently asked questions
What does IHSS pay in El Dorado County?
The state's county wage table lists $17.40 an hour for El Dorado County providers, in force since the first day of 2026. That is about two dollars below the Sacramento and Placer County rates, which matters if you live near Folsom or Roseville and could take clients on either side of the line.
Where do I enroll as an IHSS provider here?
Email the Public Authority at IHSSPA@edcgov.us or call (530) 621-6287. The office at 3057 Briw Road, Placerville, handles the forms, fingerprinting and the state video orientation; South Lake Tahoe applicants can attend the monthly session in the basin.
Can I work on both the western slope and at Lake Tahoe?
In practice, rarely. The county itself treats the basin beyond Echo Summit as a separate zone with its own hospital, senior center and transit. Choose the side where you live and list the towns you can reach on a winter weekday.
Is there CNA training in El Dorado County?
Folsom Lake College runs its eight-week NURSE 100 course with the El Dorado Center on Campus Drive in Placerville as one of its lab sites. Check the college's schedule for the next start date, which it lists as to be announced.
Does any city in the county have a higher minimum wage?
No local ordinance applies. Neither city nor the unincorporated areas set their own rate, so employers here follow the statewide $16.90.
