Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Placer County
Placer County splits into two very different job markets. The western slope holds most of the 434,823 residents in the state's January 2026 estimate: the suburban cities of Roseville, Rocklin and Lincoln, the town of Loomis and Granite Bay, then the foothill belt along Interstate 80 through Newcastle, Penryn, Auburn, Foresthill and Colfax. East of the Sierra crest, the lake towns of Tahoe City and Kings Beach are a separate world in winter, served by their own buses and their own senior meal provider. Pick a side before you build a profile; a daily commute over Donner Summit is not realistic.
Distance matters here more than in a dense metro. In the ACS 2020–2024, 67.5% of county workers drove alone, half of one percent rode transit and the average trip to work took 27.4 minutes. Open your profile with your home town, the farthest place you are willing to commute to, and whether clients can ride in your car. If you speak a second language, say so: 16.6% of Placer residents aged five or more speak something besides English in the home, divided among Spanish (6.2%), other Indo-European languages (5.3%) and Asian and Pacific Island languages (4.1%).

Caregiver pay in Placer County: how much caregivers make
Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Sacramento–Roseville–Folsom, CA metro (Placer, Sacramento, El Dorado, Yolo); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.
| Measure | Hourly | Source and coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Home health and personal care aides, Sacramento–Roseville–Folsom, CA metro (Placer, Sacramento, El Dorado, Yolo) | $16.50 median ($17.20 mean) | BLS OEWS, May 2025; 60,350 jobs; concentration 2.02× national |
| IHSS provider wage, Placer County | $19.38 | CDSS; effective September 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
Placer shares a BLS wage area with Sacramento, El Dorado and Yolo counties. In May 2025 that metro counted 60,350 home health and personal care aides, with half earning less than $16.50 an hour and an average of $17.20; the location quotient of 2.02 means aide jobs make up about twice the share of local employment they do nationally. The county IHSS rate moved to $19.38 on September 1, 2026, which is $2.88 above that median and higher than neighboring Sacramento County ($19.15). UC Berkeley's tracker of city wage ordinances has no Placer entries, which leaves the state floor of $16.90 applies in Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln, Auburn and the unincorporated areas. When a household asks your hourly rate for hands-on care, the IHSS number is a fair anchor.
How to enroll as a provider in Placer County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Placer County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.
How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.
