How to find an in-home caregiver in Placer County
Think about the drive before anything else. Seniors First, the county's main senior services nonprofit, describes its Meals on Wheels area as the western slope: Roseville, Rocklin, Lincoln and Sheridan in the valley, then the I-80 corridor from Loomis, Penryn and Newcastle through Auburn, Foresthill, Colfax and Alta to Emigrant Gap. It does not serve Tahoe and Truckee, and caregivers tend to divide the county the same way. A request for a Roseville or Rocklin address reaches a large pool of nearby applicants. One for Foresthill, Alta or the North Shore may need a mileage allowance, a longer shift, or a plan for snow days.
English is the home language for most Placer households, but not all. The ACS 2020–2024 counts 16.6% of Placer residents over age four whose household language is something other than English, spread across Spanish, other Indo-European languages and Asian and Pacific Island languages. A parent who relaxes in Spanish or another tongue deserves a caregiver who can follow; put that language in your opening line. Profiles lower on this page are ranked by distance from the ZIP code entered; new sign-ups join the list as they register.

The communities of Placer County
How the search differs across the county.
- Roseville and Granite BayThe biggest pool of nearby caregivers, both Roseville hospitals, an IHSS office on Cirby Hills Drive and four Seniors First café sites.
- Rocklin and LoomisHome to Sierra College, where local nursing assistants train, and to the Seniors First office; Placer County Transit runs the Taylor Road Shuttle through Loomis.
- Lincoln and SheridanLincoln (56,494 residents) has the Lincoln Senior Center on H Street with lunch every weekday; Placer County Transit runs a Lincoln Circulator route.

Types of in-home care families in Placer County arrange
All non-medical. For nursing tasks (injections, wound care, catheters) you need a licensed home health agency, not a private caregiver.
- Senior care at home: meals, reminders, housekeeping, errands, company.
- Personal care: bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, transfers.
- Companion care: conversation, walks, appointments, errands.
- Dementia care: routine-based support; ask for experience.
- Respite care: shifts so a family caregiver can rest or work.
- Overnight and live-in: night supervision or room-and-board arrangements.
- Post-surgery recovery: non-medical help after a hospital stay.
- Part-time and flexible: a few hours on set days is the usual start.
Evaluating caregivers in Placer County
Ask each applicant what they can document. A Placer IHSS provider has completed state enrollment with the county Public Authority, and registry providers are screened before the county refers them. Agency-employed aides are required to hold a Home Care Aide Registry listing, while for independents it is optional. Certified nursing assistants are licensed by CDPH, and Sierra College in Rocklin trains them. Paperwork aside, phone a couple of previous employers, have your parent join the conversation, and try a paid first shift. We at CaregiverConnect check nothing: no background, identity or license screening happens on the platform, and a report is something you commission yourself with the caregiver's signed consent.
Questions families here ask at interview

- Which clients have you helped home from Sutter Roseville, Kaiser Roseville or Sutter Auburn Faith?
- Do you hold Placer IHSS provider status, or a place on the Public Authority registry?
- Can you drive Dad to appointments in Roseville and wait with him?
- If snow closes I-80 or Foresthill Road, how will you get here, and how will you tell us?
- Have you worked with someone with dementia who wanders or resists bathing?
- Would you take Mom to the Seniors First café on Locksley Lane in Auburn on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays?

| Reference point | Hourly | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Employed aides, Sacramento–Roseville–Folsom metro | $16.50 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 |
| IHSS provider wage, Placer County | $19.38 | CDSS; effective September 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Agency non-medical home care, California median (CareScout 2025) | $40.00 | CareScout Cost of Care Survey 2025 |
Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
Four numbers frame the cost of in-home care in Placer: California's $16.90 minimum wage (no Placer city sets a higher one, per UC Berkeley's inventory), the $16.50 median aide wage for the Sacramento–Roseville–Folsom metro in May 2025, the $19.38 Placer IHSS rate from September 1, 2026, and CareScout's $40 California median hourly charge for agency home care. The private rate is yours to agree with the caregiver; for foothill or lake addresses, budget for mileage too. California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights makes time-and-a-half due to a personal attendant for any hours beyond a nine-hour workday or a 45-hour workweek. Families with Medi-Cal coverage should call IHSS intake (916-787-8860) first; county-paid hours may cover part of the need.
No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
