Finding in-home caregiver jobs in Sonora
Department of Finance estimates show 5,280 people in the City of Sonora on January 1, 2026, up from 5,253 a year earlier, while the county as a whole shrank slightly. City Hall is at 94 North Washington Street, (209) 532-4541. Greenley Road alone carries Adventist Health Sonora at number 1000, Golden Sonora Care Center (210 nursing beds) at 19929, a Tuolumne Me-Wuk Indian Health Center clinic at 19969 and the Sierra Senior Providers senior center at 540. Mono Way has the Mother Lode Job Training center and one of the two licensed home care organizations in the county, and the county's Social Services offices are on Cedar Road North.
That gives you three ways in. You can work privately for a Sonora family, take IHSS hours for a client who already has them, or apply to an employer: a licensed home care organization, the Adventist Health Home Care Services home health agency at 20100 Cedar Road North, or, with a nurse assistant certificate, a nursing unit. On your profile, use 95370, say how far outside the city you will drive, and say whether you can take a client along Greenley Road to the hospital or a clinic.

Caregiver pay in Sonora: how much caregivers make
Public figures first, then what they mean for private work. Statistics describe employed aides across the Eastern Sierra-Mother Lode Region of California nonmetropolitan area (includes Tuolumne County); private rates on CaregiverConnect are agreed between each caregiver and family and are not tracked by any agency.

| IHSS provider wage, Tuolumne County | $17.90 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |

Who is the employer. A family that hires you directly is your employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
About 8.3% of Sonora's labor force was unemployed, on average, between August 2025 and August 2026, according to EDD estimates. That is well above Tuolumne County's 5.4% and California's 5.3%, and the city's monthly estimates stayed between 7.3% and 8.9% in a labor force of about 2,400. With jobs that scarce, care work matters: a Sonora resident who qualifies for IHSS can have a relative or neighbor earn $17.90 for each county-approved hour, and the Tuolumne County IHSS guide sets out the steps. Sonora is absent from UC Berkeley's ordinance list, which leaves the $16.90 state minimum as the private-pay floor. BLS measured a $16.52 regional median for aides in May 2025, while nursing assistants, who can work in the hospital units and at Golden Sonora, had a $22.79 median.
How to enroll as a provider in Tuolumne County, with the office phone lines and orientation steps, is in the IHSS Tuolumne County guide. IHSS wages for every county we cover, with effective dates, are in the IHSS pay by county guide.
How the public numbers relate to private rates, and what affects them, is covered in the caregiver pay guide.
