How to find an in-home caregiver in Adelanto
Adelanto's 36,652 residents, as the state Finance Department tallied them for 2026, share full homes; the 2020–2024 census survey averages 3.86 people per household. Someone aged 65-plus lives in 23.5% of Adelanto households. When an older parent shares a home with working relatives, the usual need is weekday cover while the others are out, rather than round-the-clock care.
Language is the first thing to put in your post. Almost half of residents over age four (46.0%) speak Spanish at home, and 14.3% speak Spanish and have limited English. A caregiver who can talk with your mother in her own language, and translate at a clinic visit, is worth asking for by name in the post. The caregiver list above is ordered by how close each person is to the ZIP code you give, and it grows as people join.

Evaluating caregivers in Adelanto
Start with paperwork you can check. CDPH issues nursing assistant certificates and lets anyone look them up. Anyone the county has enrolled as an IHSS provider has passed DOJ fingerprinting and sat through the county's orientation. Agencies must register their aides with the state's Home Care Aide Registry; independents can skip it, so a caregiver without a listing has not necessarily done anything wrong. Adelanto has 18 licensed group homes for adults, and experience in one is useful, so ask which home and phone the administrator. Ring two former clients or supervisors, have Mom or Dad meet the caregiver in your Adelanto living room, and pay for one shift on trial. The checking falls to your family: CaregiverConnect verifies no identities, records or references, and any background report needs the caregiver's written permission first.
Questions families here ask at interview
- ¿Habla usted español, and could you go with my father to his appointment on Bartlett Avenue and explain what the doctor says?
- Suppose your car will not start one morning. How else would you reach our house in Adelanto?
- Have you worked shifts in a licensed adult residential home, and may I call the administrator?
- Mom has applied for IHSS. Could you be her provider once the county approves her hours?
- Can you book VVTA Direct Access rides with her and ride along as her attendant?
- What would you do first if she fell, or if her breathing suddenly changed, while the rest of us are at work?
- Our house is busy with grandchildren after school. How do you keep her routine calm around that?
What in-home care costs in Adelanto: hourly rates and schedules
Workday cover. Most Adelanto requests are for weekday blocks that match the hours relatives are away, which can be long: the census survey puts the average commute at 47 minutes each way. Split shifts. Some households split the day: bathing and breakfast early, then a return visit in the afternoon. After a hospital stay. There is no hospital in the city, so a parent coming home after a stay elsewhere usually needs extra hours until they settle back in.

| Employed aides, Riverside–San Bernardino–Ontario metro (Riverside and San Bernardino counties) | $16.50 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 |
| IHSS provider wage, San Bernardino County | $19.00 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
No Adelanto ordinance shows up in UC Berkeley's wage inventory. A directly hired caregiver therefore earns no less than $16.90 an hour, and overtime at 1.5 times the rate applies to personal attendants after a ninth hour in a day or a 45th in a week. Metro aides earn a BLS median of $16.50; county IHSS pays $19.00. The ACS puts Adelanto's median household income at $68,685, and among residents 65 and up the poverty rate is 21.8%. With Medi-Cal in the picture, call county IHSS intake on (877) 800-4544 before you commit to private pay; the county says a provider can be a family member, friend, neighbor or someone from the Public Authority registry.
No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
