How to find an in-home caregiver in Chino Hills

In the ACS 2020–2024 estimates the average Chino Hills household has 3.06 people and about 2,370 grandparents live with their own grandchildren, so a frequent request is for someone to be with a grandparent during the working day: company, lunch, a walk, help in the bathroom, and a ride if there is a doctor’s appointment. Write the posting as a plain schedule (for example, "Monday to Friday, 9 to 3, Mandarin preferred, light cooking, no lifting") and add ZIP code 91709 so caregivers whose travel radius covers Chino Hills see it. The caregiver cards above update as people sign up, closest first.

Language narrows the search more than anything else here. According to ACS 2020–2024, 18.9% of residents over four speak a Chinese language at home, 13.7% speak Spanish, 4.9% Tagalog and 4.1% Korean, and 19.6% speak English less than "very well". State the language and, for Chinese, the dialect, so applicants can rule themselves in or out. If your relative has Medi-Cal, an In-Home Supportive Services application on (877) 800-4544 can run alongside your search; IHSS pays $19.00 an hour for approved hours in San Bernardino County.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Chino Hills

Ask what each applicant can document. An IHSS provider in San Bernardino County has passed the state’s Department of Justice background check; a Public Authority registry provider has also completed the county’s handbook review and keeps availability up to date. Independent caregivers can join the state Home Care Aide Registry, which you can search by name, and CNAs hold a CDPH certificate (Chaffey College, which serves Chino Hills, trains them). Then do your own checks: two reference calls, an interview with your relative present and, if possible, a family member who speaks the same language listening in, plus a paid trial shift. Order any criminal-record report through a licensed screening company with written consent. CaregiverConnect does not vet or screen caregivers; its Verified badge means only that an uploaded document passed review.

Questions families here ask at interview

  • Which language do you speak with older adults, and for Chinese, is it Mandarin, Cantonese or both?
  • How far are you from 91709, and do you drive, or would you use OmniRide or the Route 88 bus?
  • Can you cook the kind of meals my mother is used to, and follow a low-salt or diabetic diet?
  • Have you cared for someone after a stay at Chino Valley Medical Center, San Antonio Regional or another hospital?
  • Would you take my father to the drop-in games at the Chino Hills Community Center and stay with him?
  • Are you on the San Bernardino County IHSS registry, and do you take private hours as well?
  • What do you charge on weekdays, and what changes for evenings, weekends and holidays?
Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Chino Hills: hourly rates and schedules

Expect a Chino Hills posting to center on weekday daytime hours that match the parents’ working day, sometimes five days a week. Families also ask for a few evening hours, Saturday cover so the family can get away, and daily visits for the first weeks after surgery. Live-in care is possible but needs a room, meals and a clear agreement about time off.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Chino Hills follows the state $16.90 minimum, having no ordinance of its own, and the metro median for home health and personal care aides is $16.50. For in-home care cost the more realistic floor is the county IHSS wage of $19.00, since that is what an experienced provider can earn on a county case; a bilingual caregiver or one who handles dementia care can reasonably ask for more. Agency care runs to a California median of $40.00 an hour. When you hire privately you become the employer, with overtime after 9 hours a day or 45 a week for personal attendants and household payroll taxes once you pass the federal threshold.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
