How to find an in-home caregiver in Pomona

Because Pomona borders Claremont, La Verne, San Dimas, Diamond Bar and Walnut on the Los Angeles County side and Montclair, Chino and Chino Hills on the San Bernardino side, the caregivers who can reach you live in two counties. The site matches by distance, not county, so a caregiver in Montclair and one in La Verne both see a Pomona posting if their radius covers your ZIP code (91766, 91767 or 91768). The cards above list those within reach, nearest first, and change as caregivers join.

Spanish is the main home language for many Pomona families: 54.1% of residents over five speak it at home and 71.8% of the city identifies as Hispanic or Latino (both ACS 2020–2024). If your father would be more at ease with a caregiver who speaks Spanish or another language, put it in the posting. If the caregiver will not drive, mention if you live near the Pomona–Downtown or Pomona–North Metrolink stations or the A Line, which reached Pomona in September 2025.

Choosing well

Evaluating caregivers in Pomona

In Pomona you can check three credentials: Los Angeles County IHSS enrollment, which cannot be completed without a fingerprint-based criminal record check; the state Home Care Aide Registry; and CDPH nursing-assistant certification, which Mt. San Antonio College trains for in neighboring Walnut. Ask applicants which they have and confirm it. Speak to references who supervised their care work, interview in your home with your relative present, and agree a short paid trial before a regular schedule. Any background report should come from a licensed screening company, ordered only after the caregiver agrees in writing. CaregiverConnect does not vet anyone; the Verified badge marks a document a caregiver uploaded for our review.

Questions families here ask at interview

  • ¿Prefiere trabajar en español o en inglés? Which language would you and my mother speak together?
  • Do you live in Pomona or across the line in Montclair, Chino or Ontario, and how long is your commute?
  • After a Casa Colina or Pomona Valley Hospital stay, which therapy exercises have you helped a client keep up at home?
  • Do you work as a Los Angeles County IHSS provider, and do you hold a registry number or CNA certificate?
  • If you do not drive, which bus or train would you take, and what happens if it is late?
  • How do you encourage someone with early dementia to eat and drink without arguing?
  • Does your rate change on weekends, at night or on holidays, and by how much?
Schedules and cost

What in-home care costs in Pomona: hourly rates and schedules

Pomona families can post short daily visits, regular weekday blocks while they work, split shifts around meals, weekend respite, or a few weeks of full days during recovery from surgery or a stroke. Families on the Get About service can plan appointments around its door-to-door rides and book a caregiver for the hours at home. Written terms matter for overnight care because personal attendants are owed overtime once a shift passes nine hours, or a week passes 45.

Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.

Pomona follows the $16.90 state minimum. Its median household income, $79,479 (ACS 2020–2024), is below the county's $90,112. For comparison, IHSS pays Los Angeles County providers $19.64 and San Bernardino County providers $19.00, and CareScout puts the California median for agency home care at $40 an hour. Hiring a caregiver directly through this site usually lands between the IHSS wage and that agency price; ask about IHSS first if your relative has Medi-Cal, since authorized hours cost the family nothing.

No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

Questions

Hiring a caregiver in Pomona: frequently asked questions

How do I hire an in-home caregiver in Pomona?

Post your ZIP code, schedule and tasks free, review applicants and nearby profiles, interview the ones who fit, and agree terms with the caregiver you choose. There is no agency fee taken from the caregiver's pay.

Can a caregiver from Chino or Montclair work for us?

Yes. Private hiring has no county boundary, and caregivers across the San Bernardino County line see Pomona postings if they are within range.

What will a caregiver cost us in Pomona?

Each caregiver sets a rate. Set it against IHSS pay of $19.64 and CareScout’s $40 agency figure; dementia, overnight and weekend care cost more.

Is there transport for my mother's appointments?

Get About offers door-to-door rides to residents 60 and over in Pomona and three neighboring cities; register on (909) 621-9900. A caregiver who drives can also take her.

Could my sister draw a wage for caring for Dad?

Through IHSS, if he qualifies for Medi-Cal and needs help at home. Apply to DPSS on (888) 944-4477; your sister then enrolls as his provider.

Does CaregiverConnect check caregivers in Pomona?

No. Caregivers can upload documents for a Verified badge, but references, credential checks and any background report are your decisions.
