How to find an in-home caregiver in Redondo Beach
More than a quarter of Redondo Beach households have a member aged 65-plus, and with only 2.42 people in the average home, the person who needs care is often alone through much of the day. Before you hire, it is worth a call to Beach Cities Health District on (310) 374-3426, option 1. Its care management program is free for Redondo, Hermosa and Manhattan Beach residents aged 60 or older and for adults 18 to 59 with disabilities: a social worker visits at home, draws up a care plan, follows up, and can link your parent to meals, transportation, volunteers and in-home care, as well as help with Medi-Cal and IHSS applications. The city adds three senior centers with classes and a reservation-only lunch program (310-318-0650), and the WAVE Dial-A-Ride for residents 62 and older.
A private caregiver covers the rest. Say in your post which ZIP code you are in (90277 or 90278), the hours, the tasks and whether the caregiver needs a car. If your parent is more comfortable in another language, include it; Asian and Pacific Islander languages and Spanish are the most common non-English languages at home in the city. Evaluating caregivers in Redondo Beach
You are the employer, so the checks are yours to do. Search the Home Care Aide Registry for each applicant's name; independents do not have to register, so a missing listing is a question to ask rather than a reason to reject. A certified nursing assistant's certificate can be confirmed with CDPH, and someone working as an IHSS provider has gone through county enrollment. Hold the interview at your parent's home. Phone two recent employers, put any background check in writing with the applicant's consent, and start with one paid trial week. Background checks are not something CaregiverConnect performs; its Verified badge means one document was reviewed.
Questions families here ask at interview
- My mother lives alone near the Esplanade. How would you keep me updated after each visit?
- Are you comfortable driving her in her own car, and what insurance do you carry?
- Would you take her to the Veterans Park or Perry Park senior center and pick her up?
- Have you worked with a care plan written by a social worker or care manager?
- What signs of memory loss or a fall risk would you report to me straight away?
- Would you quote me an hourly figure, and is there a shortest visit you accept?

| Employed aides, Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim metro (Los Angeles and Orange counties) | $16.50 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 |
| IHSS provider wage, Los Angeles County | $19.64 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Agency non-medical home care, California median (CareScout 2025) | $40.00 | CareScout Cost of Care Survey 2025 |
Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
Redondo Beach has no local minimum wage, so the lawful floor is the state $16.90. Experienced independent caregivers in the city usually charge well above the $16.50 regional aide median (May 2025) and below the CareScout agency median, and the in-home care cost rises for dementia care, overnights and anyone who drives. As a direct employer you also owe overtime, which California's domestic worker law sets at time and a half beyond 45 weekly hours or nine in one day. With Medi-Cal, IHSS can cover some of a parent's hours at $19.64, and BCHD says income-eligible clients may qualify for subsidized caregiving.
No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.
