How to find an in-home caregiver in Inglewood
Inglewood families rarely start from nothing. The Inglewood Senior Citizens Center, run by the city's parks and community services department, serves a weekday lunch, delivers meals to residents 60 and older in the 90301 to 90305 ZIP codes (outside Lennox) when a doctor confirms the need, helps with Medi-Cal and Social Security paperwork, and hosts free Medicare counseling. Registered residents 60 and over, or with a disability, can ride the city's vans curb to curb for half a dollar a trip. When your relative has Medi-Cal, county IHSS can fund a provider for the hours it approves. A private caregiver fills what is left, often mornings and evenings, the weeks after a stay at Centinela Hospital, or nights when a family member has to sleep.
Write a posting that lists the tasks, the days and times, any driving, and your ZIP code; caregivers working near Inglewood can then reply, and the profile list above updates as new people register. Language often matters most. In ACS 2020–2024, 43.2% of Inglewood residents five and older spoke Spanish at home, so if your mother or father is more comfortable in Spanish, ask for it in the first line.

Evaluating caregivers in Inglewood
Do your own checking. Registration as a home care aide tells you the state cleared the person; agencies have no choice about registering their aides, while independent caregivers decide for themselves. A CNA has finished an approved course and the state exam. IHSS providers are on the county's provider rolls. None of those replaces meeting the person at home with your relative there, calling two families they worked for, ordering a background screen with their signed consent, and paying for a trial shift before you commit. No one at CaregiverConnect checks applicants' pasts; a Verified badge records only that we examined something the caregiver sent us.
Questions families here ask at interview
- What did you do for the last person you cared for after Centinela Hospital discharged them?
- Can you speak Spanish with my mother, and read her medication labels to her in it?
- Could you walk my father to the senior center for the noon meal and collect him afterward?
- Do you drive, or would you ride the city senior vans with him to appointments?
- Do you have CNA certification, a registry number or IHSS experience I can check?
- What do you do if someone with diabetes skips a meal or seems confused?
- How much per hour, and is a Saturday or an overnight priced differently?
What in-home care costs in Inglewood: hourly rates and schedules
Inglewood postings usually ask for weekday mornings for bathing and breakfast, afternoons covering the hours before adult children get home from work, a run of overnights after surgery, or weekend relief. Families using the senior center lunch or the city ride program tend to build the caregiver's hours around those times.
| Reference point | Hourly | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Employed aides, Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim metro (Los Angeles and Orange counties) | $16.50 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 |
| IHSS provider wage, Los Angeles County | $19.64 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Agency non-medical home care, California median (CareScout 2025) | $40.00 | CareScout Cost of Care Survey 2025 |
Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
Inglewood has no city minimum wage, so a caregiver working here is owed at least the $16.90 state rate. The May 2025 aide median for the Los Angeles metro was $16.50, but Inglewood caregivers working on their own rarely ask that little; quotes commonly start around the county IHSS level and stay below agency billing, rising for nights and dementia care. With a median household income of $72,750 in the city, many families combine IHSS hours with a smaller block of private hours rather than paying for everything privately. Remember that you are the employer, and overtime is owed when a personal attendant's day runs past nine hours or the week past 45.
No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

Hiring a caregiver in Inglewood: frequently asked questions
Can my mother get meals delivered in Inglewood?
If she is 60 or older and lives in 90301 to 90305 (not Lennox), the senior center's home-delivered meal program can serve her once a doctor verifies the need. Call (310) 412-4380.
How does the city ride program work?
Register at the senior center with proof of residency (and of disability, if that is the basis), then book at least a day ahead. A one-way ride is 50 cents; a monthly pass is $5.
What hourly pay is fair for an Inglewood caregiver?
Never below $16.90, the state minimum. In practice most quotes sit above the $19.64 IHSS rate and under agency prices, depending on hours and the care involved.
Could IHSS pay me for looking after my grandmother?
Yes. With Medi-Cal and county-approved hours, she can name you as her provider, and IHSS sends the paychecks. The Los Angeles County IHSS guide explains how.
Where can we get Medicare advice locally?
The Inglewood Senior Citizens Center hosts HICAP Medicare counseling by appointment; call (310) 412-5338.
Does CaregiverConnect run background checks?
No. Registry lookups, reference calls and any criminal-record screen are steps you take yourself before the first shift.
