How to find an in-home caregiver in Santa Fe Springs
Many Santa Fe Springs families are caring for an older relative at home: the Census Bureau's ACS 2020–2024 finds a resident 65 or older in 2,338 of the city's 5,716 households, and 370 older women and 300 older men living alone. With 73.9% of working residents driving alone to jobs that take 33.5 minutes each way on average, a parent is often by themselves through the workday, which is where a few hours of paid help fits.
The city has no licensed elder care home on the state's May 2025 file, and one licensed home care organization, so most families here either hire a caregiver directly, use IHSS through the county, or call an agency based in a nearby city. Almost half of residents (46.9% of those five or older) speak Spanish at home. Mention Spanish, or any other language your parent prefers, when you write the job. The profiles shown below are the ones nearest 90670, and the list changes as caregivers sign up.

Evaluating caregivers in Santa Fe Springs
Credentials are worth verifying one by one. A certified nurse assistant has a CDPH certificate with a number and expiry date you can confirm, and two CDPH-approved CNA programs operate inside the city, so local applicants may be newly certified. If the aide comes through a licensed Home Care Organization, that person needs CDSS registration as a home care aide, while registration is optional for someone you employ directly. IHSS providers on the PASC registry have been through a county orientation and fingerprinting. Your own checks matter more. Ring two past clients or employers, bring your parent into the interview early, and keep a relative close by during a paid trial shift. CaregiverConnect does not vet, screen or run background checks on anyone who uses the site. If you want a record check, order it yourself with the applicant's written consent.
Questions families here ask at interview
- Could you take my mother to the Gus Velasco Neighborhood Center for the 11:30 lunch on weekdays and bring her home afterwards?
- Can you carry on a full conversation with my father in Spanish?
- Have you worked alongside a hospice nurse in a client's home before?
- My parent sees doctors at PIH and at Kaiser in Bellflower; can you drive to both and wait during visits?
- What would you try if my dad refused to shower two days running?
- What is your Home Care Aide Registry number, and does PASC list you for IHSS work?
- Walk me through your first five minutes if my father fell getting out of the tub.
What in-home care costs in Santa Fe Springs: hourly rates and schedules
Weekday mornings. Two or three hours for washing, dressing, breakfast and pills before the lunch hour. Center days. If your parent rides the city's 8 to 9 am pickup to the neighborhood center, you might only need afternoon cover. Appointment blocks. Half days for medical visits in Whittier, Downey or Bellflower. Evenings and weekends. Short shifts that give the working relative a break.

| Employed aides, Los Angeles–Long Beach–Anaheim MSA (Los Angeles and Orange counties) | $16.50 median | BLS OEWS, May 2025 |
| IHSS provider wage, Los Angeles County | $19.64 | CDSS; effective January 1, 2026 |
| California minimum wage | $16.90 | effective January 1, 2026 |
| Agency non-medical home care, California median (CareScout 2025) | $40.00 | CareScout Cost of Care Survey 2025 |
Who is the employer. When you hire a caregiver directly, you are a household employer under California's Domestic Worker Bill of Rights. The state minimum wage ($16.90 an hour from 1 January 2026; some cities set more, for example $17.75 in the City of San Diego) is the legal floor, and a personal attendant earns overtime at 1.5× after 9 hours in a day or 45 in a week. The main exceptions are IHSS recipients and an employer's own parent, spouse or child. Source: California DIR, Domestic Worker Bill of Rights FAQ.
If you pay a caregiver yourself in Santa Fe Springs, the legal minimum is California's $16.90: no city ordinance appears in UC Berkeley's Labor Center inventory, and the county's $18.47 reaches only unincorporated territory, the county's consumer affairs department says. Three markers help set an offer: the BLS May 2025 median of $16.50 for the combined Los Angeles and Orange County metro, IHSS's $19.64 county wage, and CareScout's California median of $91,520 a year for 44 hours a week of agency homemaker care, which works out to $40.00 an hour. A personal attendant you employ is owed 1.5 times the hourly rate once a workday passes 9 hours or a workweek passes 45. Look at IHSS before paying privately; the state program asks for a Medi-Cal eligibility determination, and the recipient must be living at home. For how to apply, read the county IHSS guide.
No agency tracks private rates. A caregiver you hire directly will usually expect more than the employed-aide median and less than an agency rate; every caregiver on this site lists an hourly rate on their profile, and the hiring guide covers taxes and overtime.

Hiring safely in Santa Fe Springs
Put the arrangement on paper first, naming the duties, the weekly schedule, hourly pay and the overtime rate, and how many days of notice either of you owes. Both of you should sign each week's hours. Valuables, spare cash and pain or sleep medications belong in a locked drawer, and many banks will send you an alert when money leaves your parent's account. Medical emergencies go to 911. If you think an older or disabled Santa Fe Springs resident is being mistreated, neglected or robbed, tell Adult Protective Services: the statewide line, 1-833-401-0832, asks for a ZIP code and puts you through to the county at any hour. Payroll and agreements are covered in our private hiring guide, county-wide help on the Los Angeles County page, and neighbors in Norwalk and Pico Rivera have their own pages.

Hiring a caregiver in Santa Fe Springs: frequently asked questions
Is there a hospital in Santa Fe Springs?
Not on the state's licensed facility list. The city's ride service takes older residents to PIH's Whittier, Downey and La Mirada hospitals and to Kaiser in Bellflower; before a discharge, ask the planner which daily tasks your parent will need covered.
Where would my mother go if she needed a care home?
Outside Santa Fe Springs. The state licensing file from May 2025 shows no elderly residential care facility within city limits, so any move would be to a neighboring city; ask each home to show its current license.
Can my father get free help at home without IHSS?
Possibly. After an assessment at home, SASSFA Senior Services can send help with cleaning and personal care to qualifying frail residents aged 60 or more, for as much as four hours each week. Call (562) 699-3231.
Is there hospice care based in Santa Fe Springs?
CDPH's October 2026 file lists six licensed hospices and six home health agencies with offices in the city. Your parent's doctor makes the referral; a private caregiver fills the gaps between hospice nurse visits.
Is posting a Santa Fe Springs job free?
Yes. Messaging and hiring applicants requires Family Premium ($24.99 per month), and checking references and backgrounds stays with your family.
